The Winter games are over and the last bit of construction of the F1 circuit in Sochi will now be completed ready for the race this season. So what have we learnt about Russia and the city and their ability to host a global sporting event? please log in to view this image On a sub note. How awful and low budget was the BBC broadcast? Their sports broadcasts in general are getting worse
Is that the circuit? It looks barking with that big loop in the middle. I though the trouble with the BBC commentary to the winter games was that to reflect the younger culture of the new events they got some very lightweight commentators in, sometimes with embarrassing results. Still, can you imagine and old school commentator like Ron Pickering commentating on the slopestyle event? That would have been equally ludicrous.
what I thought was stupid was they didn't have a studio (which is fine, they were out there at the venue mingling with the people getting the atmosphere). But when the sun was setting in the evening (or afternoon here) the light levels were really poor with the sun going in the pundits eyes so why still interview outside everyday? I did like the highlights with commentary in the crowd which was fresh and a new take but seemed a little cheap still. Also I believe that is the circuit please log in to view this image
From what I've seen of the circuit it looks very uninspiring, a bit like Valencia mk2. From what I've heard most people were very impressed with what Sochi did although it does seem the place was lacking in atmosphere outside of the arenas due to the fact it is quite a small place for an olympic venue, probably was lacking the big city vibe London and Vancouver had. There's no doubt they have the ability to host big events like F1 and World Cup matches but I fear this could be another unloved grand prix in the mold of Valencia and Korea.
From an F1 mod video on YouTube it seems like a mix of Korea and Valencia, just hope there is a good turnout. And the track is more exciting than it looks.
