Newcastle have been tracking Maiga throughout the summer and are believed to have offered â¬8million (£7m) to secure the forward's signature. Sochaux chairman Alexander Lacombe is against losing one of the club's brightest talents, however, and says the 23-year-old will not be sold unless a replacement is found. It remains to be seen whether Gradel is viewed as that replacement, but Lacombe claims a deal to sign the Ivory Coast international is close. He has only a year left on his contract at Elland Road Leeds are ready to accept a transfer fee now rather than lose his services for free next summer. "There has been an offer from them (Newcastle)," confirmed Lacombe. "But my goal is to maintain a competitive team. "I won't sell Modibo without having found a replacement. "We hope to finalise the deal," Lacombe added on Gradel. "It's a deal which is at an advanced stage." ---------------------------- Is this bull crap or are we actually going to lose him!
I wouldnt be suprised if we lost him & Bates says 'its good business as max wouldnt resign (for peanuts)' But I think its BS to be honest, at least I hope it is as we wont spend any of the transfer fee on the squad.
If we were going to sell him we would have sold him along time ago! Would be madness to sell him now even for silly money He will do a Becchio and hopefully sign a new deal just before January
There are a few threads going round on Gradel at the moment. Not sure I know what's going to happen. If we did lose Max, apart from being a bit irritating, how bad would it be in reality? Nunez is a ready-made replacement. We also have Sam, not quite the problem it could be. Of more interest would be how much of the money we get from Max would be available to SG to buy a decent defender? Either way, time will tell as to what's going to happen. Not sure we'd want to lose someone quite so close to the transfer window shutting unless we can make use of the money now as well
My concern is 2 things out of this convo: 1) Him having a french background and with family over there, you may be able to see his point! 2) It isn't an agent, it isn't the media, it isn't the player, but its the chairman of the club who has come out with the comments!! Its time for Batesy to do his job and shoot down the french ****!
Theres things gradel can do that nobody in our side can do! And that is his dynamite pace, and direct movement! Snoddy, sam, nunez all wait to beat there man! Gradel runs 100 mph at them, causing defenders to **** themselves! Gutted if we lost him, and would show my frustration again at the board if we did!
Boggers, max would be a loss but I can see your point. I wouldnt be comfotable with the deal though as I would be worried how much will be going back into the team & If Grayson would bring the right faces in
We will sell him and Bates will say it happened too late for any new players to be brought it and he will make a FALSE promise that the funds will be available for the next transfer window should Grayson need them.... Then if we are doing well Ken will say we don't need to spend money we are doing fine or if we are down doing ****e Grayson will be sacked and of the 4 million we get for Max maybe 2 million will be made available to a new manager.
Gradel would be a massive loss. As monster says, he is so different from the other attackers. He's fast, unpredictable and is easily one of the best wingers in the league. If Gradel obviously wasn't going to sign a new deal, we'd have sold him before the season started. That would have given us time to bring someone in, and it would be good business for the club. Now though, it's too late and would be a massive risk.
I think Sell Gradel while we can Get Sanchez Watt , Lichaj and Lansbury! a CB of some quality I would even like Steven Caldwell back and then push for promotion.
I'm convinced, Grayson has agreed to it, with the form nunez is in at the moment, it's difficult to find a place for him and of course it's a huge headache for SG. So you solve this by selling him! And to me if thats the case, then we as a club are going backwards! Again.... I'd rather pay 600 for my season ticket just to see him run rings around defenders, than pay the same just to see us passing a ball about outside there D for 90 mins! Exactly what benefits are we getting from being a leeds fan?
BATES is probably using this as a smoke screen to get a response from West Ham Leicester and Forest to get the price up its called marketing .Sure mAX IS GOING HE ALWAYS WAS but BATES will try and get the best price for him and then come out with he would't sign a new contract so it was in the best interests of me ,sorry the club ,how silly of me, to sell him now . Sorry Simon you won,t be getting any of the money as its too late to do anything now
i agree, not about watt or caldwell back though. We have a more than capable replacement and i think nunez will become better than max to be honest. We will get silly money for him if we do sell him because it is so late. And surely grayson wouldnt have at least one player lined up if he knew we where going to lose him (hopefully a defender of sorts) I think it would be good business personally but obviously others disagree
I don't care if it's good business. I'm a football fan, not a business fan. We won't find a better replacement for any amount of money and Grayson won't be given any amount of money to find a better replacement. He's one of the best players in the Championship and if Bates sells him, the **** really is going to hit the fan.
Gradel does not seem to be up for it so maybe he knows more than is being let on... Lets get rid if we must and move on and get some unity within the team... Have to agree dont want Caldwell back
ok well thats where i disagree. If i thought he was one of the best players in the championship then i would agree with you, we shouldnt sell but i think gradel has been over hyped and is overrated and if we can get 5+ for him then i would accept obviously assuming that money would go back into the team
You can't put a price on 18 Championship goals, five assists and copious tracking back and defensive dirty work. Even if one thinks he has been overhyped, that record speaks for itself and there's only one word for a club who'd be willing to sell such a talent: moronic. That's an odd assumption to make considering it's never happened before to any real extent.
whatever you say leeds-18. I think his first touch is poor, his decision making is poor, he snatches at shots. Often gets caught in posession, hopeless in a tackle, throws a ****ing fit everytime he doesnt get his own way, mouthy, overconfident, and forgets his place in the team. The pluses of him is he works hard and is pacey, thats it in my opinion. Nunez isnt as quick but better in every other aspect. I know im gonna get jumped on for that comment but he has had one goodish season for leeds and all of a sudden fans think he is irreplaceable and he is worth a ridiculous amount. No one is irreplaceable. We need to spend money on the defense and i honestly believe that if we sell him for 5m, we will get an absolute minimum of 3m to spend on players. Thats worth it, we desperately need to sort out the team and if keeping gradel is compromising it then he must go
Honestly fella u need to see just what he brings to the team, there is no one who i think is as good as him in terms of direct running with the ball! Adomah from bristol city, looks a similar player, but isnt the finished article. But seriously, were struggling to bring in as it is! so to lose him would be massive. especially when Sochaux used to be our feeder club
