Two Transfer Ins and One Transfer Out That Could Boost Bristol City’s Promotion Chances by Joe Mills please log in to view this image With the new Championship season not too far away, all the clubs in the division are looking at their squads and working out who to sell and who to buy to make the 2018/19 season a success. Bristol City had a fantastic season last term, finishing 11th in the table, moving up 6 places from the 2016/17 campaign. They actually finished just 8 points adrift of the play-off places. If a couple of results had gone their way, the season could have been an unmitigated success for the Robins. Bristol City’s improvement last season was partially down to some excellent management from Lee Johnson, but the impressive form of Bobby Reid turned out to be vital. The 25-year-old scored 19 goals for them in the league last season. But what moves do they need to make to boost their promotion chances next season? Ins please log in to view this image Matej Vydra The Championship’s top goalscorer last season has been linked with a move away from Derby County this summer. Several clubs, including Leeds United and West Brom, have been credited with showing interest in Vydra, who struck 21 Championship goals in the 2017/18 campaign. And Bristol City should also try to sign the 26-year-old if they wish to mount a serious promotion push next season as he could form a formidable partnership with Reid up front. please log in to view this image Jack Marriott Bristol City have been linked with making a move for Peterborough striker Marriott, who was League One’s top goalscorer last season. He would most certainly boost the Robins’ firepower up front but Bristol City need to act fast as a total of eight clubs are interested in the striker. It remains to be seen if they manage to win the race for his signature. Outs Matty Taylor With Bristol City starting to move up the league table and becoming something of a force, they need to get rid of some of the deadwood around the club to make room for new signings. And Taylor is one such player, who doesn’t have a future at Ashton Gate. please log in to view this image The striker has failed to make a mark since joining Bristol City from their local rivals Bristol Rovers in January 2017, and it may be time for both parties to go their separate ways. https://soccersouls.com/2018/06/24/...-could-boost-bristol-citys-promotion-chances/
What a crap statement calling Matty Taylor deadwood, given the chance, I for one think Matty could be a diamond and sparkle.
Bristol City had a fantastic season last term, finishing 11th in the table Decent yes, fantastic ? Absolutely not. It could, and should have been so much more, and the lessons of 2008 have clearly not been learned. Unfair on Taylor too. Should have been used a lot more imho.
For the most part Taylor was injured, hope he is fully fit this season and given a chance. Reid going should help his cause also , this season is important for him , I’ve a feeling , given the chance he’s going to do really well.
If mid-table is what's acceptable to us as a club and fans then Matty Taylor is the way to go, if we want top 6 then he isn't and needs to go.
No doubt you’d have said the same about Reid before last season . Not the most positive poster are you
Even though it's mad money, I'd genuinely rather spend £6.5m on Marriott than nearly double that on Vydra.
Are you kidding me, me a negative poster, compared to most on here I come across as on happy pills ffs. The point I was making is, if we want to really go for it next season we need better quality in depth, this is where we were found out last season. In order to do that you have to move on those players that aren't likely to take you there - for me Taylor is one of those, along with Engvall, Hegler Wright and possibly Durjic
Not suggesting u are I’m aware you aren’t usually negative , for me Taylor is on a similar position to Reid last year , ie this season is make or break for him , he wasn’t fully fit all last season so not fair to judge him yet , the others you mention I broadly agree with you , Wright did pretty well out of position, but I’m not convinced either and Engvall hasn’t had a chance , I don’t know why , can’t say he’s not good enough as I’ve not seen him play much , I’m aware there are lots of rumours but tend not to take too much notice of rumours, whatever the reason it’s plain he’s not gonna get game time , rightly or wrongly , so best to get rid whilst trying to get as much back for him as we can . I just have a feeling he may turn out to be a good player.
