Konchesky has left the club. And today Jovanovic completed his trip through the exit door. We all know there are players in the squad who dont have much left to stand on. Joe Cole and David N'Gog have been repeatedly linked with other clubs. But who's next for the chop?
Can see Joe Cole being the next to leave. Probably on loan abut i'm not too sure what club he might end up at.
Don't see the point of sending Joe out on loan, paying a large chunk of his wages only for him to come back a year older. If he's part of the plan we should keep him, if not then sell him for whatever we can get.
Cole is one of the biggest wages so I think FSG will prefer to take less of a loss with a part-wages loan than have him sit on the bench, because what are the chances he'll get enough games? If he goes on loan he gets games and hopefully gets some form to make him worth more than he is now. He was a free so we've got last season's outlay and whatever we lose to put him in a decent shop window. If he stays and can't get games we could be stuck with him at over £4.5m a year.
I take your point General, but if he stays and plays a few games and sets up or scores a few goals it may be worth the difference in his wage. 4.5mil for half a dozen goals or 3mil (or whatever) for sod all. Shop window may be a positive, I suppose, but can you see anyone wanting to pay enough for him for us to cut our losses significantly?
Cole is a player that Liverpool fans would like to see do well, unfortunately Joe Cole does not want to put the effort in. I've mentioned before that I would like to see the JC that got sent off against Arsenal again, he was determined to do well in that game and as a result made a stupid tackle but I would rather that than the lazy boring player that seems to have settled in at Anfield.
I think he's depressed! Ignoring the 'he earns X amount how can he be depressed' thing, he was clearly knocked by the sending off at Arsenal, then got an injury almost straight away. He tries hard when he's on the pitch, but that's almost the problem- everything seems forced, whereas it used to be relaxed and natural. Can he get his head right here? I don't think we can afford to give him the time to be honest. I also think i've attached this depression to him as with his weight i imagine him trying really hard but then going home and comfort eating, crying into 3 Big Macs as he watches his Chelsea end of season videos! If he was a regular he could help keep a team up this season (would be like for like with Taarabt imo), but i don't think he's going to get back on track at Liverpool.
Like said above he puts the effort and it seems forced He did have it at one time but has clearly lost it now Now he is just a expensive flop Like with Konchesky and Jovanovic SHOW JOE THE DOOR AND THE GATE OUT OF ANFIELD Oh and Poulsen is defo next on the out the door list
Cole was embarrassing to watch play for us last season, as was Poulsen. We can't forget Degen either though.
I just hate the way Joe Cole stands, I would see him out the door just to avoid watching him sticking his arse out whilst his hands are on his hips.
I'm not sure 4.5mil for a handful of goals (at best) is enough compared to being able to sell him. If we don't sell him it'll be 9 mil next year. If we pay 3m in wages and get 3m for him next summer then it's break-even and I think we'd all take that right now. There were extenuating circumstances affecting his season - that was about the worst he's ever been - but should we be giving time to a player, albeit a great flair player on his day, who isn't part of our future ahead of those who are? Anyway, strong rumours that Spurs and PSG are about to get serious with the bids.
Seen those on the bbc website and was all hopefull and then I saw that the source quoted was the metro! Oh well.
Except it's so easy to forget Degen as we never see him....I'd forgotten he existed (again) until pre-season. I think we all know Poulsen, Degen, Ngog have to be shifted on and probably Cole (preferably sold but loan if necessary) as personally I'd rather have Maxi or some of the youngsters on the bench than Joe so I just can't see him getting any game time and no club can afford those wages for a reserve player it's madness. I think Brad Jones may be another one looking for a club soon enough with the arrival of Doni and if we do bring in another full back it's quite possible Insua will be shifted on if not now then possibly another loan deal with a view to a sale in Jan or next summer.
The following need to leave - El Zhar Degen Jones Cole Poulsen Possibly N'gog Personally I feel N'gog should stay for this season and if he doesn't perform when we do play him, sign another striker next summer and let David go. There aren't many quality young strikers available at the moment for a good fee. No need to try and strengthen every position in one window, let it be a gradual process. With Kuyt, Carroll and Suarez ahead of N'gog in the pecking order, I think the forward position has low priority in our list of transfers.
Benitez got a lot of abuse for signing N'Gog, but having signed him for like £2mil we could definitely get more than double that for him, which is very nice business. In the meantime though i think he has the potential to be a Bobby Zamora type. Has some assets to his game, but also isn't anything special. If we were to try and buy the player i think he will be in a couple of years time i think it would cost us £6mil roughly, so he might be a good 4th choice until he eventually leaves for first team football.
I agree with the Zamora comparison to a certain extent but I think he developed from being a donkey to being half decent simply because he was getting experience in competitive games and I'm not sure how Ngog will develop without that (in fact I suspect he won't develop much at all). To be honest I'd bite anyones hand off who offered 4.5mill for him but he certainly isn't the biggest issue in terms of shifting players on so if he's still there for another 12 months at least he's not going to spend that time moaning and to his credit at least he tries his best every time he plays unlike some of recent years.
Joe Cole is a waste. There is players with less ability than him that perform at a far higher level. Look at Jay Spearing, he's not blessed with Joe Coles ability, but out of the two I know who I would rather see play for the club, and its not Joe Cole. If it were down to talent, I would say keep him, but seeing as its down to much more than that,I would say get him out. He doesn't do enough to warrant his wages. I just hope Jonjo Shelvey doesn't go down the same road, and instead takes a leaf out of Jay Spearings book.
