Not a great last season for us - no silverware - but we're still good enough to take it to the last day and lose on goal difference. Still an awfully big gap between us and the chasing pack (19 points). Not too shoddy for a "non-classic" ManU side that is obviously in the middle of a re-build!

It's pretty obvious there is still some work to be done so the the point of the post is...

Where do you think the team needs strengthening, and who would you bring it?

    Goalkeeper
I am going to put my hand up and apologise for my initial comments about De Gea. At first I thought he would be another of the ropey keeper signings we've made in the past; as it is, he's grown into the role very quicky and is starting to look the part. It hasn't helped that he has been working behind an unsettled defense. Lindegaard is reasonable cover. All well between the sticks then.

    Defense
We have missed Vidic! Having him back will tighten things up immeasurably. Smalling and Jones look quality - I'd like to have seen Smalling go with Jones to the Euro's, but injury has ruled that out. As for the rest of them... Evans I just don't rate, too slow, gets caught out of position. 4th choice CB. Fabio and Rafael have been tried and found wanting. Rio and Evra... great servants in the past, but both too old and slow.

I can see Fergie bringing a pair of FB's in the summer, but apart from that, the defense looks pretty good once we have Vidic back.

    Midfield
This is the problem area as far as I can see. Scholes and Giggs have been magnificent - it says a lot that at 38 Scholes was still our best midfielder for most of the season - but time is going to catch up with them. Against younger fit teams, they will be run off the park. Anderson has been tried and found wanting, ditto Park Ji-Sung. Fletcher was good, but is long term sick. Cleverley is one for the future, no doubt about that, but remains an unknown quantity. I know a lot of people on the board rate Carrick; I don't. I want him to dominate the midfield, boss it like Keane or Robson or Ince would have, and I don't think he has the talent to do it.

In short the midfield needs a massive overhaul - two decent central midfielders required.

    Wingers
No problems with Valenica, Nani or Young, all quality.

    Strikers
Wellbeck, Rooney Hernandez. Sounds like a plan to me!

    So I reckon:

    2 FB's
2 central midfielders - possibly only one, a Keane/Ince type of player IF we stick with Carrick.

    - with the midfield issue being the main area of concern.

    Thoughts/comments/candidates?

    Baines
    Martinez/Tiote -
    Cabaye/Herrera(Bilbao)/Kagawa
Muniain - Just think hes got too much potential to miss out on
Llorente/Rossi (Villareal just been relegated could come on the cheap)
And probably a right back as well as im sick of jones being stuck out there; get it in your head SAF he's a centre half not a full back
