The season that we all probably predicted was coming our way has ended and thankfully we will be in the Championship next season. If we look back on what happened I think it probably raised more questions than it answered and until we cross the T's and dot the I's we could end up in the same position again. D.M. has clearly stated that he does not want to go through the same emotions again, and who can blame him, but unless he has a clear vision of what's needed to avoid the same path the future probably holds much of the same. A lot of us on this site have questioned DM's ability to improve our lot in life claiming that he was a possible cheap option like so many before him and yet so many of us have that sneaking suspicion that all will turn out well if he is given a free rein to do his thing and prove that he has substantially more to offer than was on show this season. However having more to offer will only come in to play if he is given the full support of his employers and backed up with whatever other support is required. BCFC has a very sketchy history when it comes to doing the obvious in the right manner and you just have to look back over the last 3-4 years to see it in the cold light of day. The question on most of our minds is will we get it right this time and I have more confidence going in to this off-season than for many before but the proof is in the pudding. Life in this division is only going to get tougher and any teams that don't get their acts together will suffer badly and we cannot afford to be included in that group - can we?
Much depends on who he brings in over the next few months (and if he has to have a holiday please let it be in Poland or The Ukraine). One thing is for sure - if his squad can go through next season in the same manner that they ended this last one, we will be knocking on the door (6th in the form league over the last 6 games, and unbeaten in 8)
Wherever we go, it is unlikely to be play-offs. BRR, we need a period of stability for goodness sake. Mid table and concentrating on making Ashton Gate a fortress!
I think your thoughts are what most of us are feeling cidered and the rebuild means just that. Let's make ourselves a long term competitor rather than a one off wonder that holds little resilience for the long term future. The Ashton Gate roar needs to return and only a solid on field squad will get us there but a potential playoff run would never go amiss.
Genuinely happy just staying in the league next few years to be honest. With each passing season tighter financial restraints will come in due to financial fair play rulings. If we stay in the division for next 3/4 years then when the new ground opens with new revenue streams we'll be in a great position to push for the prem. Mid-table finish after a breif flirtation with the play offs would be lovely. Saying that a mid-table finish after staying mid table all year would also be nice!
