............are we going to get some new players then? Other teams in the division are strengthening already, how long before Mick brings new faces to the club? I'm getting kind of bored reading all the comings and goings at other clubs and not having anything to read about my own team.
A few sparks. A little bit of fettling required. Your right SD,the occasional rumour is mooted but no news of offers laid on the table. Or mick is being very cagey and not showing his cards yet or as usual Evans is going to be tighter than a nuns snatch and there's no money again.
I think they are all on holiday tbh.....no need to rush into anything.....wait till after the World Cup then things will start happening.
Can you please tell the other teams in the division to play by our rules and let the players have some time off because I don't think they understand and are already doing business. I mean, how rude and inconsiderate.
Forgive my lack of knowledge of your setup guys, but not sure where you need to strengthen. If it's midfield you're looking at, we've got so many now with Burgstaller from Rapid Vienna and Dikgacoi from Palace having joined us, that I doubt Don Cowie will want to stay. He's already attracting interest from Rangers, Watford and Blackburn. He's a very good Championship player - you could do a lot worse and he'd be free at the moment. He has been offered a one year contact extension, but he's yet to take it up. At the sharp end, despite looking like Fraizer Campbell is off to Leicester to stay playing Prem football, we've bought 3 new strikers in Guerra, Le Fondre, and Macheda, so I doubt OGS will lose any sleep if he gets an offer for Nicky Maynard and Kenwyne Jones. In the case of Kenwyne, he'd probably be grateful..... At the back, It's a bit of guesswork who'll become available. Caulker and Medel will definitely want out, but if we get a decent replacement or two, our Mark Hudson may want a move. Again, he was a star for us the year before last in our promotion season. Matt Connolly is another of our CBs who can also play at RB - another one on the cards to leave who could do any side a very decent job in the Championship. I think OGS is going to build his own side and those that leave are not necessarily not good enough - simply just not his men. Please keep talking guys - this Championship forum could do with a few more posters in general. Looks like there're only about 8 clubs with any decent following on not 606 for a chat this coming season.
Well Sparks, defence wise we're pretty solid, essential that we keep hold of Cresswell tho. We do lack in a top keeper and since loach has gone mick will be on the lookout for one. Midfield is ok,not outstanding, lacking in creativity and flair but that is not micks way necessarily and we need someone to compliment mcgoldrick up front and score goals. Had he not got injured he'd have got 20+ and we need another who's gonna chip in with 15+. So it is fine tuning and making an assault on top 6 and beyond, but as your no doubt well aware it's a tough, competitive league and one us townies really want to get out of after so long.
Look forwards to chatting with you Sparkey There used to be more busy boards here but promotion and relegation brings with it changes to that. Our board isn't the busiest but it's also slower than usual right now due to it being the off season.
Cheers for that Mad ads666 - trying to get to grips with the clubs we'll face again this season. Yup San Diego, our board is also a bit quiet right now as it always is this time of year. I suppose the thing that's kept it going this past month has been the transfer activity we've been involved in. If the club hadn't been so proactive in that area so early in the summer, it could have become a tumbleweed site until August. Looking forward to popping across now and again, particualrly when we're set to play each other. Don't know if you knew that the Championship fixture list is to be published on the 18th June? That should spark a bit of chat on all the forums that have a decent following on here. We were in this division for far too long before we had our chance up with the elite, and when we did, we blew it big time. You seem to have been hanging around in the Championship yourselves for quite a while now - probably too long for a club with a top division history like yours. As long as we go up, I wouldn't mind it all if you and maybe Norwich (sorry about that) went up as well. That would do me, though I've got a soft spot for Charlton historically, but can't see them doing anything spectacular this year. Good luck with your player acquisitions - I hope you get what you need to give you a decent shot at it this season.
Dirty rumour? Jesse Lingaard on a 12 month loan from united. The 21 year old has proved himself in the championship with Birmingham on previous loans so would be IMO a good signing. Thoughts? I'd add the link but being a technophobe I'm clueless. Lol.
I read (somewhere), a few weeks ago that MM was waiting until after the World Cup, and it was hinted at that loan players were likely to be a feature of the upcoming season for Town. Just how true all of that was, who knows.
I read that too Thai, but whilst Mick is waiting around there is plenty of other business being conducted in the league, it just feels like we aren't doing enough right now.
waiting til the last moment for premiership loans are the only comments I have heard from Mick. Seems another backward step. I suppose we had to expect that after the many positives of last seasons. Its never seems to be a simple job of building our own team anymore.
Too true TB. Why not beat the competition to the post and get in early and do some business. The World Cup is not an excuse cos I'm sure we can safely say not even the Iranians are in our measley budget.
"Domino" effect, world cup stars push players out of/block youth getting into top teams, they go to mid prem team and have same effect, they go to newly promoted/relegation threatened and so on and so on. Micks done it before, I remember a quote from his time at wolves that was something like he was waiting for the right apples to fall from the tree. Not the best way to do business but I see the logic, why fill up a spot with an available player who "will do" before you get to assess all the options.
