I am not impressed by our virtually fruitless dip in to the transfer market and it leaves me wondering where do we go from here? Signing a goalkeeper who was already a loanee doesn't qualify in my eyes as a transfer exactly, but putting a positive spin on anything was expected from the brass. We will never know the truth about why we failed to get any of our supposed targets, and if we felt we were not prepared to spend the money asked then I don't have a problem with the fiscal restrictions. However the fact remains that we are short a couple of logs on the fire, but given that we had already brought a few in makes me wonder if we have the right personnel to form a team capable of staying in the Championship. One of the key missing pieces of the puzzle is goals, and yet nothing was done to fix that issue, so unless they have someone in mind during the upcoming loan window then I start to question whether we have enough to get the job done. By the time the loan window gets under way for earnest we will have played 2 more games and if we don't get 4 points then we will be facing a possible long uphill battle. To be blunt I didn't expect any better news than what we got and that is the most disappointing part. Party on I suppose.
I like what we've done to (hopefully) shore up the defence but the lack of goals is worrying. Kojak has all but dried up, Wilbs is just too tired and Agard was touted as being moved out?? Draws ain't going to cut it. Unless we start getting some wins, we're in for a very tough and likely unsuccessful time.....
My thoughts exactly and as you say we have hopefully fixed up some of the issues, but without goals we could be doomed. A win at Charlton would ease the problems temporarily and give us time to get a loan in to boost the goal tally but I keep my concern that the bosses just don't get the picture. We are rudderless and leaderless which is a recipe for disaster in my books and I have virtually given up all hope of anyone who matters feeling the same way. So far my personal thoughts on what we would do in the transfer window have all come to fruition and the only link missing is the new manager which I would suspect will be as disappointing as our lack of activity during January. If you combine our disinterest during the summer break and combine it with the lack of attention to detail over the last 4 weeks it smacks of apathy. We haven't even bothered to ship anyone out on any front and it makes me wonder whether we wanted to keep those players who might have been on the out list, or perhaps nobody was interested in any of them. Has Bristol City become a pariah that other teams avoid like the plague or is just the way that we continue to do, or not to do, business that puts people off coming down our way? Look at the players that said no to us during our head rush earlier in the season when it seemed money was no object and some of us were starting to believe that someone down at Ashton Gate had finally got the message. Those hopes were quickly dashed by our targets and when I watched Andre Gray versus Arsenal I realised what we had missed up front to help Kodjia. Stumbling seems to be our biggest asset and unless we change that negative aura we don't stand a chance of staying up here where we belong. What a sad state of affairs has been allowed to happen after the successes of last season and try as hard as I possibly can to think positively I have all but given up hope of Bristol City ever getting on the same page as the real world. It could have, and should have, been so different and although there is still time for redemption based on making some right decisions I doubt that our management are capable of making them. Is it any wonder that potential good managers are bypassing us on their way to somewhere else and the full story would only be revealed if we knew whether we have actually approached anybody other than the front runners in the betting odds? I get the impression that perhaps we don't have any plan, other than just getting through another day as best as possible.
Looking at the entire package we possibly did shore up some areas of our squad and only a few more games will give us a better chance to evaluate their worth. We missed the mark totally on the striker aspect of the package, and if some of the negative feedback from some of the clubs with whom we were in negotiations with are even close to the truth then we haven't done ourselves any favours. We have a history of screwing things up when it comes down to what matters and I think the club's dealing this season have not gone anywhere close to shedding that image.
