It's been touched on in the Drury thread, but think it merits one of its own since it's such an important question. Possibly our most promising young player who we know is being watched and admired by some of Europe's biggest clubs, and his fate is still uncertain. It looks like the options are as follows: 1. He is first team left-back next season with Drury in reserve. [Ideal situation, but highly unlikely] 2. He plays left-wing next season with Drury at left-back. [Not unfeasible, but he's a poor crosser and won't be promotion quality up in attack when his natural position's clearly at the back venturing forwards] 3. He renews but is used as a utility man/reserve [Highly unlikely; if Warnock keeps him with the resources we have, he'll surely be in the first team] 4. He leaves and we get some compensation. [Most probably scenario, and a great shame if so that we've lost a great young player and only got a good old one in his place] So I'm not going to buy into the optimism the Drury signing has generated quite yet. White is twice as important in my eyes, and MUST be kept. All the great Leeds sides have kept and nurtured our academy talent, and have thus been propelled to promotion and achievement. Please let there be enough money coming into the club to keep our best players and not have a disjointed, ungelled squad of newbies, however talented they may be.
1) We get a takeover and white is kept as a utility player for wide right or left or as a LB - Probably more so as a LB for midweek matches, a player kept on to develop for another year 2) No takeover then we can't afford or won't match his wage demands so he will leave..
Interesting take on it. Drury's only played less than half of the last two seasons for Norwich, so I suppose the rotation/utility role could fit White quite well and not make him feel like he's undervalued. Like you say, to slightly misquote a pop-music dullard, it's all about the money, money, money.
Just want the takeover to happen and then announce we have signed Chester from Hull that should really piss of their fans and Leicester
White was always going,so forget him.His heads been turned by agents, telling him he's a star.he's not only potential.
Truth is, White has not progressed as I and probably Leeds expected. Pace is there but he's not a heads up player, cost us a few goals defensively and technically standing still. At this rate he will end up being a decent Championship player, a very good League One player. I am not too bothered if he leaves, as long as we get a nice fee for him. Sometimes these youngsters start believing their own hype, and they always crash and burn...Ben Gordon, Tom Taiwo, Michael Woods...where are they now? I fear White will go the same way, doesn't matter who he signs for.
I for one don't want him if he does not want to resign, Charlie Taylor is a better option at left back anyway. Greedy agent ruins footballers career:- I would guess that the following has been said: "Your an international and your future is bright..." "Just wait and see they will give you a big contract..." "We will tell them that there is interest abroad, they will be scared of losing you on the cheap and give in..." "Don't worry, Drury is not going to stop them giving you the contract you deserve..." "Good news, Barnsley are going to give you a trial..." "I know what I am doing, don't panic Bristol Rovers is a big club..."
Replies like the last four make me lose faith in being a Leeds fan. If White were so agent-seduced, he'd already be gone, and wouldn't have even entered talks with LUFC. He obviously has some desire to stay with the club he's supported all his life, otherwise he'd be swanning around London/Bremen/Lille at this moment. Obviously White makes mistakes - he's only had one season even close to being a full one. But if you can't spot that potential and the true talent it would add to our team, I'm afraid to say you don't have a clue. Can you seriously imagine him or Clayton going to another club and failing? People even said Johnson would fail - I didn't think he was brilliant, but knew he'd do better away from Leeds under our current regime. White needs another season at this level to be improve, and he'll get it wherever he goes. And after that, he'll take the piss and become one of the leading left-backs in the country if the 'pace = winger' police don't get to him first. Charlie Taylor? He's nowhere near that standard. One good cross against Palace does not a superstar make. Mark me words. Potential shouldn't be scoffed at.
White would want to stay if he was offered the contract he and his dad felt he deserved. However bates is refusing to give him that contract even though warnock wants to as well. His uncle is adamant bates is just after the transfer compensation fee.
I might not like it, but it is a win win for Bates, he either signs for a good price or Leeds get compensation... I don't believe that White was offered a bad deal, nor do I blame him for going to Huddersfield or alike for an extra few thousand. That is his right to make as much as he can, if he had common sense he would stay and ask for a promotion clause that doubles his money. Look at players like Neil Kilkenny or Jon Douglas who left for a little extra, just to find themselves out of pocket in a few years after their careers went downhill. Sometimes it works out, but I still expect to see the lads career stall and go no where.
Another season for White learning on the training field from Dury and even Pearce will do him the world of good. If we could keep him and he gets 15 to 20 games under his belt next season without the pressure that he had this season then he will be a great little player.
Jerel, you far overrate White. He is not anywhere near one of our best players and I'd be quite happy to see him go if it meant we got some decent amount of compensation for him. He's not good enough to be in a promotion winning team, perhaps squad though
Name which Leeds players who've appeared for us are better than him. Even you'll not come up with more than four, I'll wager. Come on, no-one's saying he has the end product, but with his pace, promising positional sense and flashes of vision, he has the makings of a decent top flight player at least. And if Leeds have a player of that calibre on their books, they need to be kept. Disputing that?
He's some way short of being the finished product. But he's got the one thing that we all want but can't buy or improve with training - pace. Maybe by seeing players now coming in, he might just give us another 2 yrs & see where we are. If we don't get promoted this season & he leaves to better himself, then so be it.
To be honest I don't think there are many players who don't believe they are better than they are. Take the whole England squad - Yes we topped the group but did any of the players look like a quality player that deserved in excess of £100k a week. The money pumped into the sport from Sky together with agents and the press have too many players believing their own hype
Celtic still appear interested, but are awaiting the outcome of the SPL vote on Rangers due on the 4th of July. If Rangers are thrown out of the SPL, then Celtic will not change their squad as it is already more than adequate for retaining the SPL in 2012/2013. I would suggest Aidy will have to make a decision around this time.
