    So within 32 hours of leaving the pitch at St Mary's, we kick off against United in the cup. Southampton put out as well, especially for players travelling long distances for internationals that won't get back until Friday morning.

    United have to go up to Sunderland away and then back down to London to play Chelsea less than 48 hours later.

    All this because they were too incompetent to facilitate a space for a potential replay between Chelsea and United <doh>

    What are the other options District? I haven't looked at the fixture list but assuming we win Thurs I didn't think there was a space between now and the semis which can't be delayed.

    This has been a serious problem for years now. In April 2007 we played Seville away on a Thursday night (the match ended at 10pm GMT) and then played Chelsea on Saturday morning at 12.30 ...38.5 hrs later....all cos of TV demands.
    I'm pretty certain every team has similar experiences but the money grabbing morons who run the game couldn't give a ****.

    There's also the small matter that Utd could field their juniors at Sunderland, lose , and it would make not a jot of difference. On the other hand we have to win everything to get 4th place.
    Not Utds fault, they've been good enough to get into this position.

    Any other year and I'd have said move both Semi's back but the CL final is at Wembley this year and we all know the FA bow down to UEFA

    Haha,good one. Yes,lets tell Wembley to move them a week and then they can reschedule all their events just to fit in football. Oh and yeah, lets tell UEFA to find somewhere else to hold the CL final <doh>

    I know this doesn't help Chelsea just now but one alternative would be to scrap replays from the quarter finals on, they have already scraped semi final replays, as I remember we played in the last one against man U when giggs scored that wonder goal (bastard haha). I would be against scrapping replays in the early rounds as it gives some of the smaller teams the chance to get a replay at a big club, or take a big club back to their place. The fixture list are just so congested now that many English clubs make it to the knockout rounds of Europe.

    <ok>

    Agreed. Q/F seems a natural break for replays to stop. Not many 'small' teams get that far.

    As for this time, just one of those things I guess but once again international break comes at a bloody stupud time.

    Couldn't they push back a premier league game or two to accommodate the replay?

    Yes they could as FA cup games hold a precedent over league games, always have, even at county.
