I think it could even take Benitez two years to sort Chelsea out.

Rafa has a certain style, but I am not sure Chelsea's players fit that right now.

    hilarious.

really... rafa lasted 6 months at inter under mad man moratti. Roman abramoivch would not stroke rafa's giant ego nor give him any sway over players etc.... rafa would not last 3 months..

the press hack who wrote that knows it and issafe in writing it cos its just another easy dig at villas boas.

the only mistakes villas boas made was not sacking terry and not selling lampard day one.... BTW rafa's tactical genius got to 2 cl finals... so before the go took over yes he could have managaed chelsea... i don't see RA's attakcing football guessing game strategy fitting with rafa's ultra orthodox defensive mindset, but maybe we can sell him someone for 80mil when he takes the job.

Chris Bascombe was Rafa's one-man cheerleading team at the Echo. Mind you, he got his comeuppance when he changed jobs - Went to the Screws, and the Screws went to the wall <laugh>

it's a bit of a joke eh? Roman brings in AVB, but then doesn't back him in the transfer market. What can any manager do with a team of over the hill giant egos. This is not Europe, with it's nomadic head coaches. This is a country with clubs that need managers to build and mold a team in their own image, none of the English players are comfortable with new managers coming in, wanting to change things. I can see it being the English players that are sulking with AVB and causing this. The European players are probably more use to the chopping and changing, but since so many of the chavski squad have been there for so long, you can expect a lot of resistance to change. RA has to do one of two things, the stupid idea, get rid of AVB, or the right idea, get rid of all the old players who think they are the club and let a good young manager prove himself with his own players.

To be fair he was given money to buy Lukaku, mata, and meirles. None were cheap really either. BUT ya they need to get rid of the old guard, after yesterdays goal, mata runs off..... about maybe 5 players went to celebrate, Drog, mata, luiz, meirles, ramirez, and I think Sturridge or malouda, that was it. Good team spirit them.

I'm sorry to say this but if he takes that job, it will probably be his last.

After the fiasco at Inter, followed by the inevitable failure at that sinking ship, who would want him?

interesting but the only possible way he can succeed is is ra pays up in full terry, lampard, malouda, cole and drogba and they all chuff off. At least these guys are egos who turn on every manager....

if you look at chelski they have some good players but the fact can't be ignored that ramieires is weak and so is meireles,

**** that - just stick the lot of em to train with the youth team until they do as they are told. They can submit transfer requests from there...

Your assessment of Meireles makes me laugh - to think, he was signed (allegedly) as a defensive midfielder by us...<laugh>

Managers have to be strong enough to dominate those egos or they can't manage effectively.
Can't imagine Fergie taking any **** from that lot.

I think it will happen, predicted it yesterday in an other thread. Think he will do a good job there too. Should be fairly easy to sort out, get Luiz away from centre half, chuck in a couple of defensive midfielders and throw your arm around the seniors and <magic>

Could be an absolute blessing for Torres.....

Hope AVB stays for a while longer, give us a better chance to nick fourth <ok>

    rafa would just go 4-2-3-1

    -------Essien--Mikel
    Sturridge--Meireles---Mata
    ----------Torres

no one would get in Torres' way, the DMs would start assisting in lots of clean sheets, Mata and Stuturridge would create havoc cutting in from wide, and the fullbacks would support the attack.

They'd win a boatload of matches 1-0, the supporters would be relieved at first but eventually turn on the manager demanding more shackles off 4-3 wins, he'd get sacked and Roman would buy back AVB.

And they'd have a fair few more trophies before he left.

Rafa can sort the team out and set it up to play. However putting his arm round players is alien to him.

The real problem, as I see it, is that a cabal of players are making the decisions. If they don't like what is happening then they will ensure that they play the way they want/achieve the results they want irrespective of the managers selections or strategy.

Ok well maybe not put his arm around them but, at least not alienate them as AVB has. It's a good time to take the job, can anyone do much worse? Chelsea look dire ATM....Think a rejuvinated Rafa would have the energy to sort it out. Don't want it to happen, just seems to make sense.

Rafa is certainly no fool. IF he did take the job on now he would demand assurances that he could discipline the present squad before he signed any contract. I would also expect that he would want an agreed 'war chest' for the Summer
