Phil Brown in The Daily Star... I think Phil is possibly exaggerating how close we came to signing these 2.... http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/fo...lvaro-Negredo-were-nearly-Phil-Brown-bargains
Apologies TigerinSydney - just posted this on a new thread myself...great minds... eh. Must be the international date line thingy ?
There's an irony in how the careers of the strikers and the career of the manager have gone in opposite directions. Phil Brown will never get 'close' to signing players like this again.
I'm sorry but next to the Humber Bridge suicide fiasco this is the worst thing he has said. The header screams we were so close to signing Cavani but have you noticed further it says 'we offered 2.5m and then it didn't happen'. Nowhere does it indicate the offer was accepted and he went to Napoli on loan with an agreed set fee of 17m euros at the end of it. Brown saying we were so close is like Bruce now offering 500k for Messi and claiming we nearly had him. And he paints it as though it was an amazing piece of scouting spotting an unknown, yet at Palermo at the time Cavani had a stunning season and was courted by all the biggest clubs in Italy. As for Negredo, Duffen has admitted since that although we made a serious offer, we never at any stage looked even remotely like getting him. I used to love Phil Brown but his incessant chase for media glory is really spoiling all the memories. He's like the kid in class who desperately tries for teacher's attention and all the other kids - and indeed teacher - think he's a right ****.
This has to stop Phil. For the love of God it just has to stop. Can't somebody please have a word with him?
Cavani for £2.5m... Sounds unbelievable now. We were never ever near to buying those players, Brown needs to just let it go...
I remember the Negredo 'buy back' scheme & possibly it would have suited Real Madrid financially but at the end of the day Negredo decided to go to Seville a bigger club. as for Cavani, perhaps we made an offer, that was as far as it went!
I think the egotistical, delusional clown is getting his Cavani mixed up with his Cavonia throat soothing liquid. How embarrased must his family be to have to keep seeing the utter bollocks he continues to spout?
to his crazy horse list , i would like to add the time PB in a TV interview said something along the lines that Geovanni must be on drugs - or words very similar
Forget Brown, we're well used to the nonsense. But who's that **** Richard Head writing the comments? If anyone knows him, tell him 8pm, Linnet car park.
