Sorry if this has been aired already on these boards, but having read so many rumors about strikers I was wandering which of them is more likely. Graham (Swansea) 4 star few starts at Swansea Mulenga (Utrecht) 3 star African Cup of Nations, but long term prospect Hooper (Celtic) 3 star - would miss Champions League Toure? (Monaco) 1 star - French 2nd division and rumor has all but disappeared. Incidently, Stan Collymore (Talk Sport) thinks that NCFC will get drawn into a relegation battle.
[QUOTE Incidently, Stan Collymore (Talk Sport) thinks that NCFC will get drawn into a relegation battle. Yes we may do but another pathetic pundit comment obviously we have list 4 in a row so we are doomed!
possibly, then so could fulham, west ham, sunderland etc that's his prediction. probably looking at that we've lost 4 on the spin, regardless of the opposition, and our squad compared to the other bottom half teams. at least we know CH is focused on bringing in a couple of players, maybe the losses has meant he can spend more than he'd have planned for a month ago.
There is no way we would need to spend £15m on the two from Celtic! Neither is worth £7.5m or more! Reckon we could get both for £8m max. Id rather go abroad and get Toure and Mulenga for same price and Like i said on a previous post, get rid of Morison, Surman, Lappin, C.Martin etc. I know thats easier said than done but there must be someone who wants them as they are all very capable Championship players (C.Martin League 1). I like Jackson (Also a very good Champ player) but I feel his career is being wasted at us because we are playing one up top these days and look ropey when we change to 4,4,2. I know its all about keeping team spirit and togetherness etc but we also have to think about improving and for us unfortunately, this means clearing deadwood at times. Fingers xd for the right players if Hooton can find them.
So many pundits etc are jumping on the "were going to be in a relegation dog fight" its doing my head in, if we go another 3 or 4 games without points then I could start to agree, were an easy target for that sort of opinion. Had QPR gone on a 10 game unbeaten run then lost 4 on the bounce the they would say they'll be fine, they have a decent manager and squad.
Forgot about Craig M-S!! How could I - he is almost as famous as a certain S. Ameobi!! My statement about Stan Collymore was meant to one of information only - no implied agreement.
Even before the last 4 games I never thought that we were out of a relegation battle and I will think that until the day it is mathematically impossible for us to be relegated. As far as a new striker is concerned can I just ask a couple of questions. a) Is he to replace Holt, play alongside Holt in a return to the previously failed 4-4-2, a youngster with an eye to the future or are we going to pay over the odds ( as you always do in Jan ) for someone to replace Morison sitting on the bench for when Holt is injured. b) What do we do with Harry Kane who, if my maths are correct, will have cost City about £70k a game in loan fee and wages even if he plays every game between now and the end of the season and about £500k a game if he never plays for us again.
wow is Kane costing us that much? I knew we'd paid a bit but didn't realise it was that much we paid. To add to the list of players to leave the club that bedford posted Vaughan, Ward, Barnett and, although I don't want to see him go particularly, maybe Fox. Fox just hasn't been involved and seems way too far down the pecking order he can pick a lovely pass but if we do get Bridcutt or someone else like him then it must be the end for David.
Kane is here to help us out and to get experience which he would not get at Spurs. He is a talent but he is not the answer as he is not ready to be the spearhead and get us goals. Essentially we are looking for a long term replacement for Holt. Someone who can act as back up to him for now but if they show better form than him (or if he is injured) can take over effectively (unlike Morison). As has been said before, we need to improve the squad and for me that mostly means improving on the best players and getting shot of the worst in each position. Perhaps that is a job for the summer but now, at least, we need a new number one striker as Holt isnt getting younger! In any case, Holt was a fantastic super sub last year so if he does end up on the bench (which we all know he wont want to do) he will probably end up playing better. We need to find that replacement first though!
Oh, and there's also Glenn Murray, Crystal Palace 3 star - Holloway would want at least £5m which would be possible if a striker were the only newcomer and others were sold. So that's at least six...........................
how does that maths work 1950? are you saying £70k is spread over say 20 games to the end of the season (seeing as he missed the first half pretty much)? that's £1.4m. whats the 500k per game calculation also? sorry to be picky but that seems more than our highest earner (say he is on 25k p/w = £1.3m p.a)
We paid a loan fee of £750k plus his wages. He has not played much to date because of injury. Calculate the outlay, divide it between the number of matches between now and the end of he season and you will see where I am coming from. The fewer games he plays the higher the cost per game. I don't think that we paid that sort of money to just get him a bit of experience - I think CH brought him here to play regularly. As far as Spurs are concerned he would have got 40 games a season experience with most Championship Clubs so why send him here to sit on our bench?
