Well the pre season was another mish mash of results and performances, 15 goals scored and 15 conceded in 6 games. What if anything can we take from the pre season as we didn't even see Suarez,Gerrard,Skrtel,Meireles and only 45 mins of Lucas.

A good result today was needed and got but is it papering over the cracks or are we to just forget what happened in pre season and start next saturday against Sunderland.

To be honest, I'm not that bothered about our pre-season results. We've had some good results and some poor results. Today's game was good and the defensive display was solid. I think we need to forget about the dodgy pre-season results and focus fully on Sunderland.

im thinking that way too Chris but the stupid mid-week internationals aren't going to help after todays result the ideal world would be a full week building on it

Today we saw our 1st choice (bar Skrtel) defense play to their full potential for most of the game. The 15 goals doesn't bother me and our passing is looking good. Was good to see Lucas back on the field today and as you said, with the likes of Saurez and Meireles back in the team I for one cannot wait.

I'd forgotten about the internationals! What a stupid time to play international games.

It was certainly not papering over cracks. I've been saying this all along that its better to make mistakes in pre-season and identify them and iron them out. The ironing out of mistakes is on-going. Even though todays performance was disciplined and much better than previous performances, Kenny still won't be happy. However I reckon if we perform as well as we did today, we will definitely have too much for Sunderland with the side that was put out first half with the security of Suarez on the bench.
