That's a quarter of the season, 9 points in 10 games (assuming we lose tonight) and relegation form. I've always said City fans are amongst the worst in the 'one rule for one' malarkey.
I don't want Nick to go at all, but I do wish he'd stop letting Phil Parkinson pick the team for him.
I dont suggest that at all. My point, which I thought was pretty clear, was that if any other manager had that run of form a huge number of fans would be saying they should leave.
All the gimps, who said he shouldn't have been given a chance in the beginning, will be crawling out from under their rocks on here and on radio humberside tonight.
I have to say I do kind of think nothing is happening. I cant see where we are trying to change and improve, it's like we continue the same no matter what happens.
Well if it was any other manager i would say the same as i would for NB, he is trying to modernise this club and bring us into the 21st century, and no doubt trying to bring us down to the break even point and save money whilst still improving the side.
Barmby has the support of the fans, but he shouldn't squander that goodwill. Most of the frustration seems to come about from the fact that the fans know, if we go behind, that's the end of the game. He needs to show the fans that he is capable of a plan B. I'm all for the lovely free flowing stuff, but our players do not have the experience or the confidence to produce that on a regular basis. Man for man, there's nothing wrong with our team, but something has to be wrong if there is no movement from midfield into attack. Fryatt is no lone striker, but every game there he is, by himself up front, doing the best he can. His confidence must be shot. It's one thing to have belief in a style, but it's another to put that style ahead of the team.
Even after tonight's awful performance I think NB needs our full backing. He is an honest bloke and he has a good vision for how he wants City to play. His main weaknesses have been naivity and a reluctance to compromise the playing style when neccessary, but you should never judge a manager until you are watching his team. At the moment we are watching Nigel Pearson's team and there may need to be a lot of changes in the summer before Nick has the players to play the way he wants.
the thing is nothing was spent in jan and burnsey tonight said he suspects there wont be any money in the summer...so how does Nick get his team? You carnt turn this around on freebies and loan signings
Sell Stewart for a million. Nigel Pearson might still be interested. Buy a decent striker with the money. Somebody who can actually head the ball. Remember there is nothing much wrong with our defense and centre midfield. Maybe somebody will be daft enough to buy Fryatt as well ?
You have to look beyond the defeats though. It's not enough to say it's not Barmby's team - it's pretty rare a manager gets "his" team. Marney, Turner, Ashbee, Myhill etc weren't Brownie's men either. Man for man there is nothing wrong with this side. All of the players, individually, are good players. How many times this season have we praised the Hobbs/Chester partnership? How long is it since people were saying that Rosey is one of the right backs ever to play for City? are the midfielders not good enough? Look at them individually, and who would you drop? The fact is, whatever the plan Barmby has for the team is, he has to use the tools he has. Sadly, the last three games have shown he is being blinkered by the style he's trying to get. He needs to get to his goal gradually.
i think fryatt would be ok in a different system or just with another striker, didint sound like he saw the ball tonight and i think thats like most games. we spent over £1million on fryatt and the same on Mclean so with that in mind does 1 million buy you a goalscorer at this level.....im not sure it does. Would you pay a million for stewart based on what you've seen recentley
Can anyone else explain why we're playing the same formation that was "tailor made" for koren when koren is injured ? the only excuse for playing 4-5-1 with fryatt up top on his own and koren "in the hole" was because that was koren's best position and he's our most creative player.. so why the hell are we still playing it now that he's injured and just putting another player "in the hole" ? koren's injury is unfortunate but not trying another formation is idiotic.
It really is bollocks. City1904 is a good poster but I think he's bought into this media '4-2-3-1 is the future, 4-4-2 is outdated' nonsense way too much. Any formation can work differently for any club. There is no way that just because it's the year 2012 we should start playing more and more players further back the pitch. What will be the new 'cool' formation in 10 years, 4-6-0? Then what after that? 6-4-0? Then simply 10-0-0 after that?
