Kevin Phillips has announced his retirement. His departure from us is well documented, albeit perhaps mis-quoted.

Thoughts? I like to remember his first goal against Leicester; his double that bought us back to 2-2 at Old Trafford; him scoring the only goal of our short lived European tour of 2003/04.

Anyone want to share memories of a bloke who, whatever his faults, was one hell of a player

As I said in an earlier post - super player. Superb goalscorer and we were lucky to have him him for two seasons in his later career. If our famed academy had spotted it, we would have seen that a promising RB was actually an excellent striker. Occasionally we miss.

Well done KP. An excellent career.

I was at Old Trafford for that game where his brace of goals brought us - briefly - back to 2-2. A rare away game for me, I don't get to many, but that day I was sitting in the North Stand with my Manc mate, keeping a low profile. When super Kev's second goal went in I forgot myself and leapt to my feet. If I'd been in the Stretford End I think they'd have thrown me off the balcony, but all I got was a few disapproving looks - especially from my mate. Anyway, thanks Kev. That rarest of footballers, a natural goalscorer capable of thriving off scraps and half chances.

Ps. thought this thread was going to be about Kevin Pieterson.

A player who who's ability Redknapp failed to recognise at Southampton unfortunately.

When he scored 4 in a 5-1 victory against my team, when we played against Baldock Town about 2 months before he signed for Watford. He stood out a mile.

One of the better footballers we had since Le Tiss. Great quality with the ball at his feet.

How many promotions has he had to the premier league. Leicester this season and I believe palace and Blackpool at least as two others... Birmingham? Felt a bit sorry having helped them to promotion, didn't play much in the prem for those clubs.
