..and its loking highly likely ATM How many (if any) of your current players will stay with the new Prem team do you think? In all honesty you've got a few that wont cut it, so they may be sold. You have some that made get better offers from bigger or more established Prem clubs, so they may go. For example if any of your players was offered a spot in a top 6 club I assume they would be gone. So how much of a rebuilding process do you anticipate in the summer? I reckon you'l need at least 4-5 quality players considering the 25 man rule. Who do you think will cut it & who do you think will be gone.?
Par for the course Queeny mate like any team getting promoted to the premiership they will always need to strengthen However I actually think the spine of our side would remain the same and then Pearson would add a few quality additions Schmeichel, De Laet, Morgan, Knockeart, James, Drinkwater, Nugent, Vardy would, I'm sure be given a good go at it Then still have the ever improving Liam Moore, Andy King, dyer on the bench. I think QPR would have more of a rebuilding job with a lot of your players already shown they are not good enough or too old for the top league and would be interesting to see if old Harry has learnt his lesson or again goes and buys more journeymen looking for one last big pay day. Time will tell.
I largely agree with Miami except I expect Moore to be first choice not on the bench and although Vardy and Nuge will be given a chance I do expect this will be one area that we definitely strengthen. We also need a new left back, another winger and maybe another quality central midfielder too and then a few additions as cover and I'd be happy. We have a very good young team that play with pace, I think we'll do alright. As for QPR, I completely agree with you Miami, I'm not sure any of them are good enough as you quite rightly said they've already proven that. Would be good to see how Austin would do in the Prem though because he is quality and young. As for Harry, you can't teach an old dog new tricks mate, there's no way he could do the job Pearson has and anyone that can argue that, in my opinion, knows nothing. Harry has and always will be the type of manager that will need to spend money on players and get the best (or try to) out of them. Harry and Nige, for me, are a mile apart in their ability. Yes Harry has done well but I expect Nige will be a lot more successful.
We also have money so signing these players shouldn't be an issue either because any player coming into this team should be pretty excited, we've got the potential to develop into a half decent side I reckon. On top of that we have the stadia and (if we get promoted - sad but true) we'll fill it every week. We would not be an unattractive prospect anyway.
i think our line up could be something like: Kasper De Laet Morgan Moore LB Knockaert James Drinkwater Dyer AM STR
Agree with just about all of this ... Nuge is not a good enough striker for the Prem IMHO ... he's always fallen short at that level - but I'd retain him nevertheless, possibly with a more withdrawn role in mind or as a squad player ... who knows with Vardy ... he's incredibly quick, has an eye for goal and has really found his mojo this season ... so much so that Southampton enquired about him in the window (allegedly) ... but I do think we'll need to look for a prolific goal scorer, perhaps from abroad ... Liam Moore could be pushing for full international recognition if he carries on progressing at his current rate ... I'd also take Wesley Schneider on a short term deal
So it seems you all seem to have a quite consistant opinion. personally i think you wil loose Kasper Knockheart i have my doubts about. Just not seen him have a great game yet..ALA Adel Also, as much as i like him I think Dyer would struggle based purely on the players he would be up against. Vardy & Nugent should get a chance, but given that the standard of Prem defences is massively higher than that of NPC its 50/50. Havent really seen enough of your team to comment on the rest. TBH this was agenuine post because when we went up, we had a load of muppets saying we would make at least 10th and possible be challenging for Europe inside 2 years. The fact that our Marrocan striker scored so many against such terrible NPC defences blinded then to the fact that players like Terry, Cole, rio, Vidich, Huth etc are actually good players, no matter how much you hate them. This wasnt a thread about QPR going up and "Yes" IF we do we'll have to rebuild again blah blah blah. I just wondered who you thought in your team could cut it. Its a whole diffrent world up there guys.
The very positive thing about our squad is the overall age ... we have a lot of young players who will be 'better' next season than this purely down to natural development ... that said I think we will need 4 or 5 quality signings over the summer should we get to the Prem ... we need another good keeper, a left back, more experience in midfield (perhaps a top notch playmaker and a defensive midfielder to sit just in front of the back four) and a further (hopefully prolific) striking option ...
Im pretty sure Schmeichel would stay if we go promoted. No reason for him to leave to a big club and sit on the bench. Def need a new left back (Cresswell from Ipswich woud be nice) I dont think Dyer would be a starter and so a quality new winger would be needed. I actually think Knockeart uld do well as you get so much more time on the ball in the premiership, which would suit his game and also our midfielders too. All good on the ball. Agree that Nugent probably would struggle to score "regularly" in the Prem but still should be given a chance IMO. Without doubt though a quality striker would be top of Blockheads transfer list. Anyway, we are getting ahead of ourselves, 17 games to go!
Nugent deserves a shot at the prem. While I agree I dont think he would cut it as the main man But in fairness to him he hasnt had a proper crack at the Prem. As soon as Portsmouth signed him they tried to sell him for some reason. He did ok for Burnley. Given a proper chance here he might do alright I think Vardy would do well his pace makes him a threat. He has really learnt how to use his skills this season and he has improve immensely both technically and physically
To be fair, I don't think any of our players are going to be offered the chance at a top 6 club so we won't lose any that way I shouldn't think. Will definitely need to find significant improvement throughout though should the dream happen.
If Vardy could work on his technical finishing, i recon he could cut it in the prem. Same with Nugent, need to start taking their chances a bit better. Look at last weekend for example, we aren't going to get very far in the prem scoring 1 in every 12 shots on target, so we need to start putting a higher percentage away. This is obviously the team as a whole, not just the strikers.
You are right about chance conversion .. but in fairness, Lee Camp had an inspired game (and a bit of luck to) against us - one of Vardy's would have been in if Camp's block had spiralled an inch or two lower) - but the pleasing thing is the number of chances we are creating (and we are the second highest scorers behind Derby). Whilst I think there is hope for Vardy (because his electric pace will always get him in positions), Nuge is at the wrong end of his career, I'm afraid ... he will get less chances in the Prem due to the quality of the defending and he just lacks composure when he has the goal in sight ... I can't see that changing as there will be even more 'pressure' in the Prem ... still a useful player to have around the squad 'tho... Vardy will also draw penalties in the Prem with his pace ... particularly against all those defenders mentioned above in Queenie's post
So i dont mind the criticism but your falling into the mistake that our fans did. Terry, Huth, Cole etc will eat Vardy and Nugent for fun. The point Im making is although they look very average in the Prem now..they are f-ing good players. Who on this page would not swap your CB's with Huth & shawcross, Rio & Vidic, Terry and ANOTHER.....They are all better and achieved more than your back four combined.... Point Im making is that whilst you may be scoring for fun....ALA ADEL was...you may find the standard more than a slight step up.. Like i said your almost up...so start wondering how Vardy is gonna do against the top CB in the prem, Dyer is gonna beat Johnson etc.. TBH guys, consolidation and becoming an established Prem team has to be your target over the next couple of seasons...unless you think otherwise?.... EDIT...If those players you named as good..are actually that good..then why are they not in the Prem already?
Sometimes wonder what you are on Queenie 1) Where is there any criticism of you in the above posts? ... I can't find any .. some smiles at a couple of the things you have written perhaps? 2) Personally I would not swap any of the centre-backs you have mentioned for Liam Moore ... no arrogance there - purely because Liam Moore is an emerging talent with 10 years ahead of him ... Rio, JT and Vidic all have their best years behind them and frankly, wes Morgan is a better technical footballer than Huth or Shawcross and Liam Moore has more potential ...as an aside, Marcin Walewski is a Polish international (has also captained his country) with more caps and more top flight appearances (not EPL admittedly) than Shaw and Huth combined ... for those reasons I would question whether Huth and Shawcross were / are better than what we have ... I'd readily concede that Rio, JT and Vidic in their prime were better than our players ... 3) On the evidence of the posts above, the vast majority of those posting appreciate the required 'step up', and if you actually READ the posts above you'll see that there is a consensus amongst us that we would need to strengthen significantly - I personally cite the need for 4 or 5 additions ... 4) Why aren't some of our players in the Prem already? ... simplistically because they are ours ... we've had reported Prem bids for Schmeichel (Hull), Moore & Schlupp (Fulham) .. enquiries about Vardy (Southampton), Konchesky (Palace), Andy King (Everton), Knockaert (Newcastle) and rumours about unamed Prem clubs after Wes Morgan (this season and last) and Chris Wood (last season) ... Matty James, Danny Drinkwater and Ritchie De Laet were all Man United academy players that left for first team football opportunities ... now I don't judge that as indicating that they are not good enough for the Prem; merely that they could not break into a Man United first team packed with internationals ... whether they will be good enough for the Prem remains to be seen of course .. 5) Lloyd Dyer may struggle in the Prem (his main attribute is his pace) who knows ... but he deserves a shot and he did score against both Fulham and Man City in our Capital One up run .. Nobody here is getting ahead of ourselves - if we get promoted (note the 'if') - we will undoubtely be amongst the favourites for relegation (rightly so, as history has proveen) - but I'll take that - because, even if we do come straight back down, this squad will be even better in 2 to 3 years - provided of course we can keep the nucleus of the young players together... and we also have some very exciting prospects coming through the youth ranks that will also emerge over that period ... Good time to be a leicester City fan
Apart from you telling me your CB's are better than established prem CN's who would still walk into any other Prem team, thats a very good post and i agree with it...problem is, if you cant score goals it really does halt your progress...and uif you cant keep out top inernational strikers that you will face, then you may get hurt. i hope you do go up (in 2nd of course) as it may open a few etyes.. as for no-one getting ahead of themselves..care to explain the "mind the gap" post? Good luck
I think it means the gap between us and Burnley, not the fact we are going to get promoted. No-one thinks we're promoted already, apart from Radio Leicester
