So are we all happy that we are better than last year and have progression?

Just to try to lessen the anger on here, I'll take the post earlier and bring into a new thread.

We are in better shape than last year, so is everyone happy that we have progressed this year?

After 23 games last season we had 37 points. Exactly the same as now. Our goal difference was +6 as opposed to +19. We had scored 39 and conceded 33 as opposed to now 46 scored 29 conceded.

We were 7th in the league 1pt behind Liverpool, 2 behind Newcastle, 5 Chelsea, 12 Spuds.

Now we are 6th 1pt behind Everton, 4 spuds and 8 Chelsea.

So based on that. Compared to last season after 23 games, we have the same points, higher league position, scored more goals, conceded less and are less points behind Spuds and less points to 3rd place. What a drop in standards without RVP and with less 'tough' games to go.

So can we continue progressing like we have shown and maybe get 2nd?

I think the team is now belong as now we can see them playing well, however while we'd scrape for Top 4 the goal next season should be the Title.
That being said, I'm happy the team has shown it can hold it's own without Judas

Anyway, lets hope the Spuds implode like last season. I doubt Villas Boas will go to trial as a tax dodger, or proclaim his desire to manage the Portuguese national team, so maybe we can hire Stoke to rough em up a bit? It's a pity we can't rely on Chelsea being distracted by the Champions League either.

Here's to hoping the last 15 games of the season will be nothing like the first 23! :emoticon-0167-beer: I could really get used to this optimism biz..

It would be funny if AVB did though.

The squad alone is stronger than last season, so i am surprised that we are struggling so get into the top 4. The key so far this season has been the successful return of Wilshere and the outstanding signing of Cazorla. Disappointed that Podolski hasn't teared it up but Walcott is making up for it. Rosicky needs to come in too, as he was such an important player for us last season. All in all, we've made a slight improvement but weakened in some other others like the LB position and Vermaelen and Kos aren't playing as well as before.

Scored 7 more, conceded 4 less, still on equal points.
It's positive that more have been scored, and positive that less have been conceded, but in reality, it has made zero difference since the points are exactly the same. This is a "babystep" in the right direction, which is good, but you can't say that the team have improved very much from last year at all.

A couple of wins, starting tonight, and things will look better. Tonight is very important.

It's 'Blinker Brigade' fans like you with your delusional devotion to a manager who has clearly lost the plot, who gloss over the full blow crisis at our club and try to ignore the fact that we are now ****; who give the true realist fans a bad name. <grr>

Yep, that just about sums up your 'contribution' to the debate.

I like the idea that they're just people who blink a lot, as opposed to a "blinkered brigade" who can't see the whole picture.

    I'm usually right. :-D.

I said we wouldn't challenge for the title- correct

I said we would struggle with the squad we have due to not making additional signings over the summer- correct

My general negative outlook of the season has been on point for the most part.

Do you know what ? The positive fans on here get accused of being 'blind' having their 'heads buried in the sand' being 'blinkered' etc and other meaningless soundbite, unfounded accusations. But in fact, if you really look at what's happening at the club. The fact that we're better off at this stage than last season, that we've got some great quality players coming through, a proper core of English talent, a sound financial footing for the future, playing champions league football in the knock out stages, through to the 5th round of the FA cup and looking like we're improving bit by bit . .

then it's actually the negative fans who are not looking at the bigger picture and are the ones who have the blinkers on. Even the positive fans will point out where we need to make improvements, but for some of the negative fans, it's all **** and that's the real irony when the accusations of 'head in the sand' are banded around <ok>

No you're not, you're usually wrong. Ask any fan and they would have said we won't win the league, it doesn't take a ****ing genius to predict that.

You said we would struggle, and Magic Man has just pointed out that we're doing better than last season at this point. So you're wrong again.

Your negative outlook of the season has therefore been largely wrong <ok>

We're on the same points as last season, so how exactly is that better off than last season? Not to mention we currently sit a massive 18 points behind United, LOL, you call that progress to be happy about and a positive forward moving direction? Danggggggggggggggggg.

Oh my God, please don't tell me you consider making into the 5th round of the FA Cup as a barometer of progress? PLEASE TELL ME YOU DID NOT JUST SAY THAT.

As for the UCL knock out stage, erm, we made it there last season as well, how bout we wait and see what happens after the Bayern game before we start lauding ourselves in the competition?

You see just epitomised the blinker brigade with that fantastic PR statement. You forgot a few things though, like how we have a great stadium.

I generally don't come onto the forum after a loss. I just don't find it enjoyable to wallow in misery the way so many people seem to. We are the 4th richest team in England so before anything happens there are 3 clubs more likely to win a trophy than we are. Somehow expecting to win every game , or win a trophy just seems to me ridiculously unrealistic.

Anyway, to my mind, as long as the team seem to be giving us a chance and I can understand what they are doing, I'm happy. There is a chance we will win something. Hopefully we will soon. I will celebrate the teams wins and avoid this board like the plague when we lose, because I just find all the rubbishing of the players and the club/manager/board depressing.
