Apparently Redknapp said this on SSN but I only have it second hand off another forum Hill Rio Dunne Ned 2 of Caulker/vlaar/Donaldson This would also obviously mean no wingers so Hoilett and Philips would have to play in the hole. Could see some interesting formations in the pre season.
Flyer, as FinnHoop kindly posted on another thread, this is what can happen when players misunderstand what playing in the hole means. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/269746-Ferdinand-signs
I was just about to make a thread with the same subject - Harry did say that on SSN. Interesting. Meaning perhaps 3 at the back with 5 in midfield and 2 up front. Or a 5-3-2. Its a flexible formation, but you would need some CB's with pace there so Onuoha and Caulker either side of Ferdinand.
The CBs often have to cover down the side behind the WBs so only one of Rio, Dunne and hill can play. I think Dunne has to go as we could only have 2 slow CBs and would need 4 mobile ones It also means two up front so a place for Remy and also possibly an AM. It also means no henry as it would be suicidal having him sit in front of 3 CBs.
I didn't like the way he was practically begging caulker to join us. it was almost like he was using rio as bait to get him to come.
Should make for some fascinating "commentary/views" on here about team selections and formations !! I guess when required you can slot in Danny/Yun as wing backs rather than out-and-out wingers for a bit more defensive pace.
Agreed. Although he may try one of Phillips or Hoilett in the role if we're not playing one of the top sides.
Oh god no, they'd make Traore look like Ashley Cole! I can only see them playing behind Remy and Austin. I think Ned would be the emergency third RWB if we had more faster CBs.
So a team line up like this then? -----------------------GREEN-------------------------- -------ONUOHA----FERDINAND----CAULKER-------- SIMPSON------BARTON-----FAURLIN--------TRAORE -------HOILETT-------AUSTIN-----------REMY That prevents a winger like Hoilett from being in the middle, unless they play the wing-back role as Simpson and Traore are in that line-up.
Didn't know Hoilett could play there tbh. Only downside with that formation is no proper winger - so where would Phillips fit in.
I have a feeling that this is where Dunne will retire, after this season. Also, I don't think we'll know how we'll line up until after the first whistle in August.
Ned would be a terrible wing back. He's very, very limited with the ball at his feet. Very quick, but he must play at CB imo. I did say a while back that we may play 3 CBs to enable us to play 2 forwards. Plus, Taarabt could play behind them!!!!
I know he's not very good there so that's why he'd only be an emergency third choice, a bit like hill would be the emergency third choice LWB.
