    Looks like a done deal.

I am very happy with this signing. He’s a very good goalkeeper.

But is he better than Dubz?

Not seen enough to compare but, England international, only 30 which is fine for a keeper.

About time we had 2 good keepers again!

Dubz has been good but has never had any pressure on him with a good no2.

My opinion is Pope is as good if not better.

Pope will play and I reckon he would be first choice.

Exactly this. I was underwhelmed when Targett/Burn signed in Jan, look how that turned out?

Still, we haven't done anything so far to set pulses racing and I'm worried this isn't exactly selling the club to better calibre players.

If you were underwhelmed with Targett and Burn what were you with Wood?

The other thing is if he wants to be going to the World Cup he has to be playing and putting in some good performances
I was same as you with Burn / Targett and look how that turned out
Look at how Brighton dropped off for about 10 games when he left
It’s all about balance and team spirit so no need for prema donnas at the minute

Spirit will only get you so far. But I did concede that Howe has a difficult balancing act. I worry, however, that he's going to put too much faith in the players who did so well at the back end of last season and may overlook the fact our 'surprise factor' has gone. Teams will now know what Howe's Newcastle is all about. Let's not forget when this team went toe to toe with bigger teams, they regularly got walloped.

    Yep I agree
Take away the top teams and the teams below have a constant balancing act
The funny thing is with Wilson we change our attack twice a season anyway
I always thought new additions/ formations take at least half a season to suss out before they become predictable

Nick Pope is a good player. He may not be the wow factor.

But a good player no the less.

Pope is a step up. Better than Dubravka.

    That can only be positive.

Regardless of whether he's better than Dubravka, he's definitely an upgrade on Darlow for a relatively small outlay.

    A small outlay of 8-10M ?
You could become a landlord of nearly 8-10M houses in ashington or bedlington for that amount

If the figures reported are true, it’s an absolute steal. Great shot stopper, one of the bargains of the season as mentioned previously if it goes through.

Pope is the type of players I was hoping we would start signing.

    Different level than under Ashley

Same. I was hoping we'd get Pope and Tarkowski for cheap.

Pope is better than Dubz IMO. At least now we have 2 good options anyway.

Fine with me. Good back up quality tbh. Pope, Dubz and Darlow.

Woodman has been sold I see. Fair enough.

We can keep Dubz for cup games and ****.
