Labour has won the Scottish Parliament by-election in Dunfermline, after beating the SNP by almost 3,000 votes. The victory represented a gain from the SNP, who took the seat in the 2011 Holyrood election. The by-election was caused by the resignation of sitting MSP Bill Walker, who was thrown out of the SNP and jailed for domestic abuse. Cara Hilton, the parliament's newest MSP, said the people of Dunfermline "deserved better". The SNP won Dunfermline as part of its landslide election win in 2011 with a majority of just 590 votes, but was not able to hold on. Labour took the seat with a majority of 2,873 - a 7% swing from the SNP. Seems the intelligent people of Scotland are beginning to see through Salmonds bullshit. Yeah that's the way i'd see it. SNP is highly unlikely to be a major force if it achieves its sole objective.
They said that about devolution. They also set up the electoral system so that the SNP could never, ever get overall control in Scotland. Guess what happened at the last Holyrood election?
Routed in Dunfermline ffs. If the SNP can't make inroads in Fife then they are in deep trouble. No wonder Fatty is losing so much weight!!
I don't disagree ST. However the entire raison d'etre of the SNP is to get independence for scotland. If they do get that what's left for them?
Nope he doesn't like it up 'im. Actually tha's not rue, he does. STD is beelin' that his love for Fatso clouds his judgement that once we get Independence Slimy Salmond will be history. Hurrah!!
Not to mention the fact that dunfermline is a traditional labour seat in which the snp victory last year came as quite a surprise.
Inroads ? The SNP held the seat Nige . It's a seat where the incumbent has just been found guilty of being a serial wife beater . It's no surprise that his party has lost votes . The only surprising thing about this result is that some in here are surprised about it .
I'm not surprised in the least. The SNP are solely about Independence and once that is achieved they will be history. Scotland traditionally is a Labour stronghold and that will come to the fore once Independence is gained. Best you deal with that sonny.
Surely it depends on what else they offer does it not? At the moment every promise and policy is based around the goal of independence. once they get that what makes them more attractive than any of the others? I may well be wrong of course but I just think parties that have one objective are likely to fizzle out once they achieve that.
So they won the seat at the Holyrood election (first past the post and list seats) in Fife but they haven't made inroads into Fife. You really are as thick as really thick thing.
