I'm not sure that I agree with the FIFA ban - they're simply taking things too far I reckon. I don't think I'd wear one myself - too dorky looking for me - but I cant see why others shouldn't be allowed to. Septic Blather's reasons for the ban: 1) "I was a football player in winter and summer and have never worn that" to which I say "So what?" - they weren't around in the dim, dark past when he played; 2) "..we must also pay attention to the law that says what the equipment is." Well, Law 4 bans the wearing by players of " anything that is dangerous to himself or another player" - all I can say is that snoods don't look particularly dangerous to me. 3) "...snoods pose a safety risk if opponents grab them when players are running at speed. It can also be dangerous, it can be like to hang somebody." Well why not ban shirts while you're at it so that opponents can't grab them either? And while you're at it, ban studs and elbows too! Power has gone to his head - maybe we'd all be better off if wrapped a snood around his mouth.
Lets ban a few more things while we are at it. Tights. Might get a certain player mixed up over the sex of another and attack him. Boots. Could be dangerous if a player is stamped on while prone. Gloves. Could be used to conceal knuckle dusters. Linesman Flag. How long before one is shoved up a nostril or somewhere else. Fans. Might get stroppy and call for resignations at FIFA.
I had to look in Wikipedia for this word and found this. A snood is historically a type of European female headgear. So how has it become a footballers neck thing. I have a tubular scarf which I wear inside my fleece pullovers and below a normal scarf to keep warm.
And how can anyone play football properly with one of these things around their necks. I think they should be prohibited.
