Chaps, only a rumour but we have today been linked with Robert Snodgrass. Now this is a rumour to whet the appetite! Having said that, if its the same as normal, Lambert will sign players who we haven't been linked with at all! However, where would we see Snodgrass fit in to our team? I'm not saying he wouldn't get in cos I personally think he is a terrific player and would be an excellent signing, but I just can't think where he would play! He tends to play on the right side of midfield, a position we don't really play anyone in - Crofts usually works the right flank. But he is part of the engine room and Snodgrass is not a natural replacement for him. As I say, probably no legs in the rumour, but would be an exciting signing, even if I haven't got a bleedin' clue where he'd play!!
oops, forgot the link... it is on talkshite though! http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-n.../7730/8/norwich-plot-summer-swoop-leeds-star?
Is Robert Snodgrass really a hungry player though? And I'm also not convinced he is better than anyone we already have...
I think Snodgrass is, over the course of a season, as good as any of our boys...BUT...on a good day Snodgrass is as good as any upper-mid Premier midfielder, and if anyone is going to get 110% out of him it's going to be Lambert. That having been said, Leeds demand stupid money for players, and unless Snoddy is out of contract in the summer so we can pick him on a free, I don't think Lambert/McNally would be prepared to pay mega mega bucks. Leeds don't have to sell as they're financially stable, so fair play to them for that. Be interesting to bung a post on the Leeds board and see what they think? OTBC PC
Like I said to DM in chat, Snodgrass is a winger who usually plays on the right and cuts in on his left foot. He works well in 4-2-3-1 and 4-4-2 formations, but with the midfield diamond you've been playing (if you stick with that in the Premiership), I doubt he'd work unless at the tip of the diamond, which I'm sure Hoolahan's already good enough at doing. He's played there for a couple of cup ties which you might have watched on telly (Arsenal away this season, Tottenham away last season), where he was very effective and some top defenders found him a handful. Gave Andrea Dossena nightmares when we played Liverpool at Elland Road a couple of seasons ago, too. His skill on the ball is immense, he also has a cracking curling shot on his left foot, a good eye for a pass and a fairly accurate cross, though he can be prone to fatigue which lead to poorer deliveries. The cliche about him is that if he had more pace, he'd be world class - he's not slow to be fair so he's definitely a Premiership-class player in my biased eyes. The figure people have been quoting for Snodgrass is ã5m, think he still has two or three years left on his contract and he's never been a player to rush himself into a move (famously turned down a move to Celtic and a trial at Barcelona in the past in order to further his career at the Scottish lower league clubs he was at). Wouldn't say he's a plodder, but certainly not the kind of hasty, greedily ambitious player most of them tend to be nowadays where they'd move to anywhere just to get Premiership football. I think he recognizes how much he's loved here in Leeds and wants to stay, which I respect a lot. Having said that, he'll probably sign for you tomorrow on the back of a ã500k transfer fee and say how he's furthering his career at a better club, knowing Leeds' luck.
