The thing I am really looking forward to this season is getting some quality away supporters again How many times over the last couple of years have we stared across tha Northam to see no more than a handful of fulhardy individuals quietly sat in the corner not making a sound - not good This year we can expect 1000's rather than 100's which will add to the atmosphere and starting off with Leeds will be great cos their fans are excellent and give the Northam Boy's a run for their money COYR
I only appreciate how good the atmosphere is when I'm out of the Northam. I'm down the other end this year so will hear/see everything - including those incredible goal celebrations when we score against Pompey
Totally agreed. When you factor in the larger contingent of away fans that will be in attendance, we should have guaranteed matchday crowds of 25,000 minimum. Will really get SMS rocking again.
Will be plenty of dickheads as well in those away ends. Leeds, Millwall, West Ham, Pompey to name but a few clubs who think they are a bit "norty". Personally, thought the away fans in league 1 were excellent. Some of them didn't bring very many, but when some of those clubs get 4,000 at home, taking 400 away is still 10% of their support, which is pretty good really. Clubs like Bristol Rovers always made more noise with 2,000 fans than I've heard bigger clubs with 3,200.
I was just thinking of Bristol Rovers when I was reading this thread, they were very loud indeed, terrific away support. To be fair, our away support is the best in the country so obviously our expectations of other club's away support will always be high!!
The Gas were good, as were Walsall too. Looking forward to the bigger away followings though and none will be bigger or better than Leeds. You have to take your hat off to them. Forest will push them too, as they always take alot away. Not looking to the gauntlet run with a 10 year old for some games though. On holiday for Millwall, so that's one less to worry about and West Ham is midweek in school time, so a mid week trip from Northampton won't be allowed for him.... but ok for Dad!!!!! Apart from the Skates, the rest then should be ok.
Our away support last season was class, that will continue into this season i think! The northam do often seem very quiet when needed the most, but we cant half make a noise in SMS.
I would argue with you there. We've sold out every away allocation given to us for the last god knows how many years.
Yeah I thought there was some great away support last year, pretty much all except Man Utd. They like throwing a bog roll or two, but don't mention that they're 1-0 down. There's a few teams in League 1 that I really hope do well.
The Northam isn't that loud, due to the amount of kids there. Back when it was open, the Itchen had half the numbers but was the louder of the two stands by quite a margin. Hence why away fans sung all their songs at it. I expect people to come back with it was only loud because you sit there... But I have previously sat down the Chapel end and in the kingsland at times and the Itchen was louder. Even now, when they get going block 4 are nearly as loud as the northam. I would say the loudest part of the ground at the moment is the Kingsland North/block 40.
i think your exagerating a bit saying our away support is the best in the country, its quite good and all, but you're forgetting about clubs like leeds, liverpool, manure newcastle etc.
It shouldn't really be up to one stand or one bit of a stand to make all the noise though! I agree though that when St Mary's gets going and all the stands chip in, it's a great place to be.
Lady at the ticket office said at 10am this morning, a confirmed 24,500 tickets have been sold so far including Leeds fans... Should be a cracking atmosphere whether it's a sell out or not, absolutely buzzing for this one!
If this is true ....friggin hell AMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING! Cant wait for Saturday!!! Lets make it a noisy one lads!!!
In my opinion our away support is the best in the country because we all support Southampton Football Club... is there really a better away support than that?? I don't care about Leeds, Liverpool or anyone else, they don't support the mighty Saints so they can't be as good!
You tell yourself that .... I'm really looking forward to switching on the TV and only being able to hear Marching On Together as usual .
