Smith admitted Bristol Rovers have eight "cup finals" to save their season. Rovers slipped to within three points of the League Two relegation zone following a 3-1 defeat at Fleetwood Town on Tuesday night. Smith said: "Everything is in our own hands. We have eight massive games â eight cup finals â to save our season. The only thing that will turn things around is hard work. That means hard work on the training ground and hard work when we are preparing for and playing games. We are a physically fit team and there is a lot of ability in that changing room, but it just isn't working out for whatever reason at the moment. The bottom half of the table is very tight. A couple of wins can jump you up five or six places. We just need to get a win to restore a bit of confidence and go on from there. We are positive before we go on to the field for every game, but we all need to sort out the away form in particular, because we have a couple of massive ones to come at Wycombe and at Portsmouth".
Why don't players play like it's a cup final every week though? 100% effort is a minimum requirement. Smith does this, but some players maybe could try harder
Totally agree. Footballers are the luckiest people alive, getting paid handsomely to play a sport they love. 100% is the minimum requirement.
A few Swansea players went all the way to the Premiership with them. Have any of these guys got the drive to go all the way to the top with the Gas?
Re-reading this, is it me or do footballers talk almost exclusively in cliches? He's right though - these are now vital games. Let's hope that DC can sort out our away form, and that he can inspire the team to 3 points tomorrow.
