Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay has completed the signing of Heidar Helguson from Rangers and is looking to agree a deal for Smith after the forward was told he can leave Loftus Road. Cardiff also recently made an enquiry about Jay Bothroyd, who left them to join the Râs on a Bosman free transfer a year ago. Like Helguson, Smith knows Mackay well from their time together at Watford and has plenty of Championship experience. He moved to west London from Portsmouth for £1.5m in 2010 and played a major role in helping Rangers win promotion. But the 32-year-old made only seven first-team appearances following Mark Hughesâ appointment as manager in January and has since fallen further down the pecking order. Several other clubs have shown an interest in Smith but are struggling to meet his wage demands. Hughes is keen for a number of QPRâs fringe players to move on this summer. Luke Young is also surplus to requirements but his future is unclear after a potential move appeared to fall through. http://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/smith-could-be-next8-to-make12-cardiff-move?
Tommy Smith - good championship player and hope he does well where ever he goes. Not a moaner, just a grafter and took his chance with us. Wish him all the best
Will wish him all the best. A very underrated player imo. He is very intelligent and may lack pace, but usees his intelligence to beat players. Has been a good servant for us, despite not being here long.
Good luck to him, i like him as a player but hasnt cut it whilst been in the prem Will do well in the Championship for them !! Good luck mate
when he does go,which he will,he will go with my best wishes and thanks, great player and model pro who never moaned when sat on the bench or wasnt even in the squad.and lets not forget he scored our first goal back in the prem.
What was this potential move for Young? I don't get the situation with Young. I thought he was decent and since we don't seem to be buying anyone else at the moment, must we get rid?
Hes too old and on too much money so no one will want him. A huge reason why I am against signing old players. Same with DJ, JB, JB, RH etc I dont think Smith will be on too much so he may accept a move to the NPC.
Smith's been a good servant for the club, but like HH it's probably time for him to move on to get more game time.
Actually there is an interwiev with Hughes on the offy where he says: "A lot of players left the Club in the summer and of course we've signed quite a few as well, but the balance of the squad still isn't quite right," "We're looking at that and hopefully by the time the 25-man squad is named we'll have the right balance and quality in place to be successful here. "The process is still on-going in terms of players - there are still a number of weeks to go until the transfer window closes. "If we're fortunate enough to bring a few players in to add to the quality we've already got then that's great, but some players will have to leave as well." "There are a lot of names flying around - as there always are at this stage of the season. "But we prefer to get the job done and get the business concluded in-house instead of talking about specific targets." http://www.qpr.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~2867570,00.html
