Mark Hughes insists there is no chance of Tommy Smith or Jamie Mackie leaving QPR on loan.

Watford are believed to be keen to take Smith back to Vicarage Road for a third spell at the club, while Cardiff have been linked with both Smith and Mackie.

Both men face stiff competition for places but will be named in the 25-man Premier League squad Hughes submits later this afternoon.

And the Rangers boss says he is not prepared to allow either to go elsewhere – even if their first-team chances are limited.

“They’ll be in the 25 and there’s no sense at all in them going out. It won’t happen,” said Hughes.

Striker DJ Campbell is also a target for a number of Championship clubs but he too has been told he will remain at Loftus Road.

Good. Both useful and versatile players. People say things like 'I'll drive Mackie to Cardiff myself' which is all well and good if you're a top club with loads of quality midfielders but we are not and we need him.

Would never happen, Mackie is a Mark Hughes type player.

I'm delighted that DJ is still in. I'm hoping we'll get good service from him once he's match fit and lost some timber

Mackie is underestimated. He isnt the worlds best footballer, he is a long way off that! But what he does miss in skill he more than makes up for in hard work and chasing opposition players. Every team needs a mix of skill and work. He probably wont play alot now, but he is definatley worth keeping as part of the squad.

Mackie is one of those players I would keep in my squad but pray I don't have to play him.

Thank goodness. I think Smith is a solid player, I think he is underestimated by many.
Mackie is looking better every week, his confidence seems to be rising. Just needs to get in a couple more solid games, I think he'll find his feet again.

Personally I'm a fan of Smith, saw loads of him at Watford and he's to good for them. Dont think he'll get a lot of use but i think he be a good squad player for us...

Mackie...well....not the best player in the world but; personally i find it very hard to fault someone who puts in so much effort for our team. I think he knows his limitations and i wish he could persuade the rest to put in as much effort as he does. I think he'll be used occaisionally if only to chase down other teams and make them panic a bit.

If Taarabt showed the effort that Mackie does then we would have some player on our hands........

There are numerous threads and posts slagging Mackie , Smith , Derry , Hill, etc.... that they are not prem quality or good enough to be in the squad or even at the club and this really winds me up, because I don't think people are looking at the bigger picture.

TBH the knockers are correct IF you play these as the main team together they are not good enough collectively, however I believe all of the above mentioned and more can do a stirling job individually if they were surrounded by more experienced prem players either for 90 minutes or as a sub, therefore I believe that alot of these players should be with us for a few more seasons, remember as individuals they can all offer something different be it hard work or experience.

Mackie is still relatively young as well, so can surely only get better by playing games in the Prem?

Has also popped up with a couple of goals already...

Mackie is our new Stuart Wardley. Remember "Wardley for England"?

I agree that we need a solid second 11 and not just an eye catching first team but I think there is going to be more business done in the Summer and the second 11 will consist of some of the current squad with more new signings brought in to boost the depth available. The days of Derry, Hill, Hall, Betty, DJ and even Smith & HH are numbered.

Unless, of course, MH has seen enough quality on the evidence of the games he has been in charge and work on the training pitch to think otherwise. Maybe he thinks they are more than capable. I do have concerns that with a load of new signings there could be a more mercenary attitute towards the club and no desire to get down and dirty in a relegation scrap. Hopefully we can drag ourselves out of the bottom 6 over the next few weeks so it doesn't have to come to it.

We have to stay up first! Nevermind the business in the summer! Lets see what the 25 can do.
