Interesting listening to RH tonight and Sluts interview. Doesn't yet know his players or where to play them. Its been suggested he hasn't despite Escabs assertions have anything to do with recruitment.
Musa was obviously a Slutsky target, as were the Chelsea lads, Pennock was probably responsible for Kingsley, the others like Campbell are unlikely to be down to him. It's hardly a surprise that he doesn't yet know all the players strengths and weaknesses, many of them have only had a few training sessions.
Ha... no.... it was his comment re Jackson Irvine saying he didnt know where to play him or somthing like that. If he had wanted him, he would surely know exactly where to play him...
Meyler sat deep and Irvine in for larrson? We need youth and energy look at the impact Bowen has had?
Ehab probably saw how well we did with Brady and Chester from Man U, forgetting about Stewart, Dudgeon and Stewart - he probably thinks he may get the opportunity to make a few million out of the Chelsea lads if we sign them
It certainly seems clear that other than the Chelsea boys that Leo had not much idea about the players being bought. Though he must have had some influence on Dicko & Irvine having seen them play against us.
BBC Humberside Sport @HumbersideSport Leonid Slutsky says he had full responsibility for final decision-making process on new signings amid questions about his input.
Having the final say and being the instigator of wanting any particular player and 2 different things.
Our approach to actually signing players this season has been a total shambles. But, all part of Ehab's football philosophy- whatever that is. At the moment it would seem to revolve around incredibly poor defensive displays with a selection of players (with the odd exception) that don't want to roll up sleeves and work as a team. The value of a cohesive team all pulling in the same direction is capable of achieving great things.
Slutsky just said in his press conference regards Jackson, " he played as a attacking midfielder for Burton, we don't have a number 10 in this formation, so we have to figure out how to fit him into this formation" then the question is, why buy a player who doesn't fit into the way you play, while i'm not saying he does not have a say in who comes in , that statement has a ring of " don't blame me he's not playing, i didn't bring him in".
The only player that we have signed who has been playing reugularly in the Championship and we don't play him. Chri*t on a bike.
I believe Slutsky is referring to the change in formation. He wanted to play a 4-2-3-1 formation as we have seen a few times. That formation has a "number 10" and Irvine could have play in the middle of the 3. Because of defensive frailties we have now seemingly changed to 3 at the back, a 5-2-3 / 3-4-3 / 4-5-1 or whatever you want to call it. That formation has no number 10.
In fairness it seems we've taken a whole new approach to signing players this season, new staff needing to get to know each other and settle into their roles. A few hiccups is to be expected. The players on their own merits didn't actually look to be bad signings but fitting them together is seeming to be problematic for now, that could change in time. It's easy to point the finger at Ehab but nobody here has a clue what's gone on behind the scenes. That Sheffield United video showed that things quickly and easily go tits up for reasons outside the clubs hands. Slutsky is very new to England and won't yet have a knowledge of players here. This season may well end up being written off, but if it's one step back to take two steps forward that's a good thing. It's a complete overhaul from the staff from top to bottom to operational procedure and right down to formations and tactics on the pitch, a little patience is going to be needed. Rome wasn't built in a day.
I get all that but we're over resourced in certain areas and under resourced in others. Given the time the club had to make signings and assess what was required, we've done a piss poor job.
