I'm turning into a right miserable sod - sorry. Flash 'Arry gets the chop. One reason mooted is because Spuds aren't playing in the Champions League next season. Once upon a time the League champions only (as well as the previous year's winners) competed in a knock-out event to be called "Champions of Europe". It was marvellous entertainment. In a free draw AC Milan might meet Leeds - or Shamrock Rovers! A proper competition, in my eyes. It also meant that to play in the EUFA cup was a prestigious honour too AND winning it almost as good as winning the European Cup. Then there was the Cup Winners Cup. What was wrong with that? I know the answer is money, but if those that rule divvied it up into the 3 competitions (and the money must be available 'cos it's being given now!), well, I think European competitive football would be in a better place. AND dont get me started on why all the bairn mascots at this European Nations have to wear yellow and red..... x
