People talking about Maradona/Messi, Pele/Neymar and so on got me thinking. If we had an english talisman (we don't, so just...don't), who would we be comparing them to? In short, who's the best English player you've seen? I tried to think of one an nobody really stands out, and also, have we ever really had a talisman player?
Torn between Gascoigne and Scholes. Gascoigne was a talisman and the most gifted English player I've ever seen play football. Scholes was technically unsurpassed in the past 30yrs of English football.
Bryan Robson. Captain marvel, always a cut above the rest. Just a shame he kept getting crocked in world cups.
Best retired English players ive seen - in no real order Beardsley LeTissier Gazza Scholes Woodcock Hoddle
I tell you who doesn't get the recognition he deserves; Alan Shearer. Between 96 and 98 he was, in my opinion, the best centre forward in the world barring Ronaldo. He'd have walked into any team in the world.
