I read somewhere the refs only got it wrong ~3 times last season? If that's the case its a massive waste of money for league games. I can understand it during knock-out games where everything rests on a 90 minute result.

    Basically, meh.

German football voted against it and on the opening day there was a goal not given even though it had crossed the line like Lampard's...

I recall seeing us play Brighton years ago the final score was 0-0 despite us scoring & the ball getting stuck in the net between the post & the net, it took about 3 seconds to get the ball out by the defend & he was kicking it away with anger not to clear it.
I'm looking forward to it & stop those stupid decisions being debated for days on end.

If I recall, DQPR scored a goal in the 1-1 draw against us 07/08 that never went over the line.

True! I also remember FA Cup game vs Newcastle at home a header late on off the inside of the post and then caught by Shay Given on the line, looked well over..

So was the millions of pounds spent on development, testing, installation etc been worth it? Personally I would prefer that money being put back into grassroots football for the sake of a couple of mistakes a season.

It's only being out in place now. How can you judge whether it's worth it yet?

On the grass roots football ting, i'm pretty sure they just pumped millions into building St George's Park...

Mistakes are part & parcel of the game, they generate discussion & in general enhance the game as an entertainment spectacle.

Where do you draw the line?

What if the ball crosses the line but the player who scored was offside?

What if the ball crosses the line from a header but it also crossed the by-line prior to the cross being made?

There'll have been more goals given / not given last season because of dodgy offside / foul decisionsthan ones that were given / not given because they had / hadn't crossed the goal line.

The money would be better spent on improving the standard of officials.

Thats interesting to bring up, as I think Dutch football is introducing some technology to deal with things like offsides this season.

Does it detect the difference between the ball and a balloon?

Lets not all go throwing balloons and other balls into the oppositions goal to test it it out now.

Can it detect the difference between the ball and someone's head that may have fallen over and crossed the line?

Is there anything that could trigger it that crosses the line that is not the actually ball?

Is this bit of the technology flawless is what will be quite interesting.

They've already said that it isn't.
It's roughly as accurate as the officials have been so far.

What about if it costs a club two points and they get relegated?

They just need to concentrate. When I ran the line I would always be aware who was in an offside position and I knew that when the ball was kicked. Most assistant referees seem to be looking upfield and then panic when the ball is kicked forward and make a guess.

I'm still a believer in using technology where possible though.
