Hi guys. As you all know SLB is currently AWOL and we have been unable to contact him. As a result Sandy kindly stepped in and took over the running of the league and the updating of the table. However recently Sandy has found that he is very busy himself and is unable to continue. This leaves us with a few options. 1) we could leave it and just update it on the last day of the season. 2) we could find someone else who has the free time and they can update it every week. 3) we could leave it alone completely. I would hate to see it finish completely as it has been a mainstay on here and 606 for as long as i can remember. If there is anyone who has time to take it on then please let me know. Im sure Sandy can help with explaining how it works.
Wish I could help.... I can barely count sheep.... would be great if someone else could take this on...
I think Dan, that it is not just time but ability as well. SLB had a program he used which I am afraid is beyond me. If no one comes forward the final day option would seem the best, although it would then be a case of ploughing through all of the previous weeks forecasts which would be a major job I think.
I dont think it would be that bad as we only have 3 weeks after this. But i cannot see another option. I am not clued up on exactly how he did it.
Sandy said he did it manually each week...but remember he is 3 weeks behind Dan, so it's actually probably more like 7 weeks that will need updating. Sadly i'm way too busy at the mo, and hopeless at maths! lol.... I do hope someone can take this on, it'd be such a shame to let it go after all Sandy's hard work.
As a computer programmer in a previous life, it's probably not going to be too tricky to knock up an Excel macro that would do the job. I'd love to do it (especially as I am stumbling up the table) but I am also too busy at the moment. However, I would gladly offer technical assistance to anyone taking it on.
I would have loved to have had the ability to do it, but as I am a computer biff I will rule myself out
I vote that the league is updated once more at the end of the season, or we accept Yorkie is champion.
I will volunteer to update if people would like - I have never looked at the rules for awarding points so would need to "bone up" on it but if Sandy was able to do it manually then I could try that too - I dont think at this late stage I would be bothered to "automate" it. If I do it then please bear with me as timings could occasionally drift and please everyone try to check your own scores and alert me to any mistakes. Your call - I am happy to give it a go if you would like
thanks so much Leonardo, that's fantastic! On behalf of everyone, i accept your hugely kind offer. And don't worry if it's not every week, whatever is easiest for you...if that's just the final week, then great...though obviously you'll need to check all the weeks anyway, so it might just be easier to do each one and keep on top of it. Maybe have a word with Sandy about it to see how he did it? Thank you again
Thank you very much Leo. Thats very good of you. I dont think anyone minds when its updated. There is no strict timings so if it varies dont worry. Its just great that you are happy to do it.
OK - can someone confirm the latest position - to what date is the league currently updated? Secondly form other correspondence it seems that the 12 matches on Good Friday and Easter Saturday are not "in" but the Easter Monday ones are - have I understood that correctly?
As it stands he league is 3 weeks out of date. So you would have to update it with the last 3 sets of results. We have added the Easter Monday but not the fri/sat as explained in the posting thread. Does that help?
Thanks Leo for doing this... I might have given it a go, but our year-end is coming up at work and I'm only a few months into a new job and still learning, plus have a few hectic weekends away coming up.... and I have also no idea on how the actual scoring works on this!
Thanks Leo. Had been thinking about offering whilst at work today - school holidays start tomorrow so I would have had some spare time at my disposal
I run a prediction league on another site and I have template files for it in Excel. As you do 12 games a week I'm assuming it's a similar format, so if someone tells me the scoring system and points me in the direction of the tables so far and the games that haven't been included yet, I should be able to add the information in and send it to who ever is taking over your admin of it. (assuming there's nothing unexpected about it) That way all they'll need to do each week is put the fixtures/results for games on one page, put people's predictions on their own page, and then read the table to update this site. (takes me about 5 minutes at the start of the week to find the fixtures, 5 minutes to copy predictions in on a Saturday morning, and then 5 minutes after the games to pick up the last predictor or two, put the results in, and update the table on the website. EDIT: And I've just noticed the thread was from yesterday, I hope if it is a compatible format you haven't gone and done all the hard work and then seen this.
