Slavi, and guess who else (no, no not Nigel Pearson) took in Brighton's game against Nottingham Forest last night. please log in to view this image The Brighton winner in the last minute was scored by no other other than the 'Ginger Iniesta', Steve Sidwell after he had not long come on as a sub. The determined look on Slavi's face takes me to another story about him doing the rounds today - not only has he intensified the training sessions but he has insisted on separate lunch sittings. Apparently when they all piled into the canteen at Motspur Park together, the atmosphere was like a school dining room. So, the juniors now eat at a different time from the seniors. He said it was a small change but created a more professional spirit longer term. Adding, “I believe in things like this. It’s very important to me people understand all my intentions, and the reasons for the change. Change for change sake is silly. We try to improve all the small details".
I like the idea of improving all the small details. I remember hearing Clive Woodward talking about how England went about winning the Rugby World Cup. He said that they realised it wasn't practical to aim for 100% improvement, but making a 1% improvement in 100 different areas, with all those marginal improvements making a significant collective difference, was entirely possible. It seems like a good philosophy to me.
