Town are keeping tabs on Brighton and Hove Albion centre-half Lewis Dunk. Looks a decent player maybe a little expensive but its nice that we are looking at young players......
http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/22221/brighton-defender-linked Good to see Mick is looking at players with Championship experience. Premier league players tend to have a chip on their shoulder when they drop down so it's better to look at our league and lower for the men who will really do a job for you at this level.
This would be a brilliant signing, a young centre back who has a lot of potential. Him, Tommy and Chambers would be a great trio of central defenders to have.
What does " keeping tabs " mean ? The transfer window is open now, assuming the homework on potential targets has already been done then surely now is the time to make an approach with a firm offer. How many times in the recent past have we heard hard luck stories of potential signings being missed? I hoped that we were finished with all that.
Judging by what we've seen so far in this transfer window I think Evans & Clegg have finally pulled their fingers out and delivered
Cant agree with you there JWM. One signing and a lot of loans doesnt (for me at least) signal a sensible long term strategy. I will go as far as to say I will reserve full judgment until the end of the window but our squad of long term (ie after this summer) contracted players is very small.
I have to say it seems to leap from one strategy to another. With the signings we've made I would argue that they are not quite so sought after as the ones Jim, Keane and Jewell made, so probably easier deals to get done. Plus the club seem to have changed strategy from being overly prudent in the summer to when they realised we needed stregthening to sanction all those loans under Jewell and now all the McCarthy signings. I mean over thes summer I bet Clegg and Evans wouldn't have allowed Jewell to have 10 strikers on our books!! On the plus side we appear to be much more discreet about our transfer dealings which can only be a good thing!!
TB there is absolutely no point in buying many players in the January window at higher prices than in the summer. Loan signings make sense until the summer when we can then start a proper rebuild. I am happy with this short term strategy as we have already written off our prospects for promotion this season. The best we can achieve is a solid mid table finish which in itself will be a fantastic achievement.
