iv just cancelled sky.Now in the past they have told me that the box is mine and if it breaks down I would have to pay for a new 1 .the box belongs to ME.Iv went to watch something that was recorded when I was subscribing to there service to find i cant watch anything.the box that I own doesnt do anything or show any of the recordings even though I PAID FOR THE PROGRAMS ! How can this be legal. iv fecking paid for everything. im still after a lift in a car or transitty type thing to qpr train is 120 quid
You don't own any of it, it belongs to Sky. The only thing you have proprietary rights for is physical stuff. It's like your Apple iTunes purchases, they belong to Apple, you pay for the rights to listen to it until you die, but it's not yours.
the box is mine ,they have disabled its operation, the progams on there wern't just recorded off sky.things recorded on bbc or itv unwatchable, i now can no longer record things on freeview using my box.im getting bt tv as iv got bt internet.just thought cheeky bar stewards
They are well within their rights PJH. It's also in the T&C's you will have agreed to when taking out the contract.
This ..with Corporations you don't actually own anything you rent it, and your use of the goods/service you paid for is dependent on their...good will John Deere are trying to pull this one off in the US (and probably world wide too) for their tractors http://www.wired.com/2015/04/dmca-ownership-john-deere/ (mind you the car manufacturers tried a few years ago to lock their engines/bonnets so you couldn't do any maintainence and HAD to go to the proper dealer for ANY work required) This is all based on DMCA / copyright stuff ...and probably part of the reason why TTP/TTFP negotiations are hidden from MP's/MEP's and us. Totally agree however, same happened to me when I booted Sky (majorly pissed off that I lost my saved films. BBC etc still record however Did they try the ..we will give you a 10 % discount marlarcky, and make cancelling is tricky and long drawn out as possible?
Their T&C's (not just Sky but a lot of companies I mean) are bollox though..you are basically signing away your first born on some T&C's and EULA's ...which is why the EU slapped steam / google and they had to change their EULA's..Mind you, steam did it by slightly re-wording their EULA and NOT actually addressing the problem..So the EU will have to take them to court again.
yea you only have to pay so much as you have been with us 20 years or whatever, then rang me a week later just asking if you still want to cancel .just pist off at loosing the programs id recorded
They be absolute ****s. Once they gone though it feels good ..plus all that extra pocket money to spend onNetflix or Beer (that you actually just rent too as you piss it down the drain, thinking about it)
I just get my series downloaded these days and use Amazon prime for some other stuff. Sky can suck my hairy plums.
Get an android box mate, £43 from amazon, mobio is mine but there are others,. watched the CL semi final last night in hd. effing amazing. You can watch owt, box sets, latest movies, old tv shows, old footy, go online, google, youtube etc!! And all for gratis, null, zero, nothing!! F*** Sky this is the future. Murdoch can go and t**s himself off for all i care. Open Source Telly is HERE!! hurrah... The bairns were watching Shaun the Sheep movie last night and I was watching latest Game of Thrones this afternoon. Honestly you will be amazed. Icefilms has 77,000 movies and tv shows to watch, and that is just one add-on. If more people knew about these boxes SKY would be ****ed!!
fast broadband needed for android mind ( phonix genesis addon kodi xbmc portal ) ..watched sly for years never paid a penny ..eat that mr m ... and that's not through ..android either. with your sky recordings its all to do with activation of the card which has stopped due to you cancelling they have you by the nuts I suppose
I'm also very tempted to get rid of my Sky. If I can ever be arsed to look at what else is out there, Sky will probably get the boot. I think the final straw was when I realised Sky didn't have Breaking Bad on their box sets and I paid £40 for all the series at HMV (62 ****ing episodes, I've watched about eight, its mental). Now I appreciate Sky may have had Breaking Bad on in the past, but that's poor form imo.
And also Sky re-negotiated their premiership tv deal and two seconds later my monthly subscription when up by £4. Cheeky twats.
For the OP, I would expect the sky box would still decode and record bbc etc, but not let you watch anything that you need a subscription for. Ie movies and sport etc. If the box has been software de-activated, that's news to me.
I cancelled my sky a couple of years back and all my recordings were lost as well. It's Sky's policy to do this.
pretty sure the recording side is taken off the chip of the card . matched with chip in box .........when you cancel ..I use to install for sky for years m8 .. many times I had to phone up for people when they did not activate the recording side of the box ..they quickly sent down software through the dish to box or telephone line ...to authorise chip of box and card then the recording side would work ...that happened almost instantly ... mr Murdoch is a dirty player ...and will do anything to get you to sub again
Bloody hell another not606er turning into a pirate - funny that we have a chap on the safc board that also went over (or walked the plank if you like)
