It is understood a number of clubs are to enter bids for aj before the transfer window shuts. If Wenger has any sense he'll be all over this like a rash. Mancini is a fan so may not want to lose him permanently but knows aj needs games this season to be in contention for euro 2012 so surely a loan would suit all parties, enter SAFC. Come on Brucie get in there!!!
I don't think we'll get him, but it will show how ambitious we are if we do/don't make an offer either on loan or a permanent deal. He's a cracking player on the left wing and someone who should be a first choice for England.
We'll do what most clubs will put in a bid that is lower than expected and be pipped at the post by Arsenal say then it'll be "we tried to get so and so etc. etc." still think that we'll be very lucky to see any more new arrivals this window christ I hope I'm wrong.
Aye Talc, thats what I reckon as well, hope we're both wrong. I think Bruce dropped a bollock by expecting Gyan and Sess to be our main forwards this year. as a result he didn't buy a big replacement for Welbeck. Instead he bought for next year in Whickham and Ji, expecting their involvement to be minimal. He expected Larsson to do the job on the left and either elmo/vaughan to pitch in on the right. I think Bruce was set a budget and he's spent it all, but his plans don't appear to be working and he's realised it, so he's had to go to the board and admit he made a mistake and asked for more funds. Thats why he said earlier he's happy with his squad now we have problems and he's ****ting bricks trying to get more players in.
Agreed mate but, why not try something different as this bollocks 4 4 1 1 crap isn't working we just don't have the players for it we aren't Barcelona FFS. How about playing with 2 strikers a bit radical but if one misses the chance (and we are creating the chances) then the other one might just get on the end of it. With you on the budget thing maybe 5 year contracts weren't one of his best ideas.
There's a lot of sense in what you said there I reckon. He's defo working on a budget, just wish the club would communicate that clearly to SAFC supporters!!. The "next year buys" fit into his "creating a development squad" remarks. Sess just isn't a striker - can fill in but not a striker at the end of the day, so big tick for me around dropped a bollock Without a partner for Gyan we will have a hard time, even without taking the ACN break into account.
maybe that what it took to get them in, and if he was convinced that's the right thing to do, that would have seemed a good idea at the time. Still at least he seems to have realised things aren't going to plan and he's trying to rectify it. At least thats a start.
Unfortunately playing for Sunderland wouldn't help him in this department. We're simply not recognised and rarely watched by Capello.
A start that should have happened pre season mate if I'm honest but, better late than never. I think all it will take is a couple of good wins with a new striker hopefully then we'll be off again hopefully.
Welbeck is now on the England scene due to a good season.with us so I have to disagree with you to an extent there flag
