This is great news for us, he gets a summer's rest and i think he should reitre from international football because we need him more than they do and he's 34 years old.

its good for us he gets good rest but a loss for England, other then Terry, they have no reliable defender's cos Lescott is ****, Kompany made him look good but hes crap, i hope Tim Cahill partner's Terry in the defense.

England now have one experience and reliable Centre back only and that is Terry, with other's playing you just know there will be a mistake coming soon, they need another Reliable defender, we all know what happened in the world cup and we go on dropping a reliable defender. our defense is weak. I cannot see us going far in this Euro, not with the defense, Smallings out too, they should of picked Ferdinand, even if he ain't playing, his experience and him being around will help also if the defense is struggling we can send ferdinand on, he's reliable.

Its England's loss but good for us since he can have rest.

I would be very shocked if Carroll gets ahead of players like Crouch or Welbeck who both have done much better then Andy Caroll this season. I hate city players but im also hearing Richards out as well, he is much better then Glen Johnson and Johnson is good at attacking but when it comes to defending, Richards is better.

I would be in total shock if Carrick is left out again, he should be in for Euro's.

How on earth is Terry a reliable defender? Have you actually watched him for Chelsea recently? Andy Carroll tore him apart in both games against Liverpool.*

I remember against the Germans in the last world cup, the ball over the top caught him out countless times, and he was the main culprit. The Germans were running riot against him.*

Fair enough Rio isn't a great deal better, but I'd still have him over Terry all day long. If only the England team had a proper defender like Vidic in the side.*

Is the fact Rio's gonna be fresh for next season realy that big a deal for us. If all our players are fully fit next season I'd go with Vidic alongside Evans, and have Smalling and Jones in reserve. I could understand if Rio was still top class, but he's been a liability for a good few seasons now, and has been carried by Vidic *

John Terry is a poor defender, his performance against liverpool is the worst i've seen a centre-back play.

Is Terry in the squad? Or are we just assuming that it was either Rio or JT in the squad. I'd leave both out tbh, JT has been **** for awhile and Lescott have looked pretty good together in an England shirt. Cahill also seems to play well with the nation team.

As Rio cannot play more than one game every 7 days, he is hardly going to be an asset in such a demanding tournament.

A fair point. I said a few days ago neither Terry or Rio should play a big role. I would have had him in the squad though.

Good for United as he can get plenty of rest for the new season but I am surprised that he has not been picked to go to the euros. Also, how can they pick that scum Terry with the impending court case?

i don't like how Ferdinand's being treated by England, England will rue this decision after because they need another reliable defender to partner that scum Terry, Lescott is ****, this season Kompany made him look so good, they should go with Cahill but even with them both, you just know that there will be a mistake coming. Ferdinand keeps the defense tight, England struggle to do that recently against teams with Rio out, remember world cup? and recently by Holland, they opened our defense up big.

He probably wouldn't have been in the first XI anyway. But Rio confirmed this last night that he wouldn't be going, so doesn't that suggest that it's more of a joint decision between him and Roy regarding the Terry situation?
If that is the case and Ferdinand is refusing to play alongside Terry after what happened, then I think it's a respectable decision by Rio. It's also the second player John Teary has forced out of the England set up.

Sources close to Ferdinand already saying that decision to exclude him from squad was 'not football-related'.

Rio has to retire from international football now, in fact he should have done it years ago with his injury situation. Forget about England and focus on prolonging your career with United. From United's point of view it's only good news he's not going.

Av - if on form I'd be shocked if any of Carroll, Crouch or your boy Welbeck got in ahead of Holt..but we all know how England works. Bunch of failures riding on "reputations".

The United players are scarred by being eight lengths up with five fences to go and choking.

They should not be entrusted with the England shirt this summer.
