Now as most of you will know, Sky is not exactly my most favourite of organisations particularly when it comes to football. For example 1992 and the Premier League...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992–93_FA_Premier_League So this season has Sky reached a new low? In a country where cigarette advertising is now banned in sport...http://www.politics.co.uk/reference/tobacco-advertising In a country where football has been promoted as family friendly...we now have the Sky BET sponsorship of our beloved football league: http://www.football-league.co.uk/fo...o-sponsor-the-football-league_2293334_3318506 Is it right that the psychological influence of betting should be promoted within our children from such an early age? quote: Sponsorship of The Football League helps us engage with millions of football fans spanning all 72 league clubs. I love this responsible last paragraph...All of Sky Bet's services are GamCare accredited and the company is also a signatory to the Remote Gambling Association Code on Social Responsibility. So how precisely do they ensure in engaging that responsibility, I'd be interested to know? Views please...
Looking beyond the trees at the bottom of my garden I can see the rhubarb fields stretching into the distance with the houses of Brompton farm road just visible on the far horizon. That's my view and I'm sticking to it.
Never subscribed to, or even watched any Sky Sports Channel... on principle of what they have done to English football...
Ok, let's try this another way...applying the same government principles but altered in these two examples, one an actual quote and one my adjusted version: Quotes âWe cannot ignore the fact that young people are recruited into smoking by colourful, eye-catching, cigarette displays. Most adult smokers started smoking as teenagers and we need to stop this trend. âBanning displays of cigarettes and tobacco will help young people resist the pressure to start smoking and help the thousands of adults in England who are currently trying to quit.â Health Minister Anne Milton â 2012 ............... âWe cannot ignore the fact that young people are recruited into betting by colourful, eye-catching, betting logos. Some adult gamblers started betting below legal age and we need to stop this trend. âBanning advertising of betting/gambling will help people resist the pressure to start gambling and help the adults in England who are currently trying to quit an addiction.â brb 2013
"I'd far rather see for myself what's going on in the world outside, than rely on newspapers, television, politicians and religious leaders to tell me what I should be thinking" brb 2013
I've really not got a huge issue with it, Im under no obligation to bet with them and so close to the start of the season the league didn't have a sponsor meaning that if it wasn't Sky Bet, all the League clubs wouldn't get money has a result of the sponsorship, I'd personally rather have a questionable sponsor and more than have none but keep moral integrity. Quite a...Gamble wouldn't you say.
No need to be sorry...my signature is correct...all my views are based on personal knowledge and nothing to do with media reporting. I only applied the media links, as information to readers outside of the bounds of what I actually and factually know. ps. as a completely side note, maybe Hoadie would like to explain how easy he found it to gamble as an under 16.
With all the issues wrong with football already this doesn't really rank highly on my list of concerns. What with the appalling behaviour of players on the pitch, with cheating, verbal abuse and violent conducted being condoned and even idolised by the press and children; the appalling racism, sexism, verbal abuse and violence seemingly accepted on the terraces and idolised by films like Green Street there are more issues that the "beautiful" games should be addressing before the suitability of the league sponsors
As a regular better each week I dont see a problem with Skybet or an other bookies for that matter being our league sponsor. I have got 6 different online accounts including sky (which i think is the best one a free fiver each week) and sky was the first account i opened and it was very hard proving how old i was to get an account with them, i did all that was asked but i was still required to call there customer services line and e-mail them a copy of my passport to prove age, with everything in life moderation is the key and with gambling (including the lottery) dont go spending the rent or next weeks grocery money and never i mean NEVER gamble with money thats not yours credit cards are a big no no. could never understand how people rack up huge 6 figure debts.
James interesting post which leads me to ask you a serious question if you don't mind...what would you recommend punters use as a form of credit to participate in online gambling. Totally agree with your comment about credit cards by the way, which leads to a second question, how can or do, online bookies moderate the use of such CC, to ensure gaming aware that they so promote. thanks.
brb I know you're joking - but you'll have to try harder to be funny. You must know that all the " awareness " talk is totally insincere. All the bookies are interested in is taking your money. Next you'll be expecting Tesco* to put a limit on the amount of shopping anyone can spend on their credit cards. * other supermarkets are also available edit -when I saw the title of the thread, I thought for a minute that the bookies had already paid out on our relegation - there, brb - THAT's how not to be funny - stick with me - you'll learn when not to laugh ( as you are beginning to find out on our jolly jaunts )
I'm glad you've realised in truth that I'm actually not trying to be funny and there is an issue here that goes unrecognised. I'm sure over the year's members will know that I am certainly not against having a sensible wager. However, at the same time I am aware of the bigger implications involved of addiction. Yes, I drink and I smoke all very costly in health terms. But gambling is destructive more in the financial sense and can lead to homelessness and lifetime debt and dare I say crime. I believe in freedom of choice, so I am merely doing no more than highlighting the double standards applied as noted in my earlier comments. Strange really, I'm not considered responsible enough to be able to have a beer at my seat during a football game but the football league are quite happy for those same people to sit there and engage in and promote online gambling and what a surprise all promoted by Sky. All this said and done without even throwing a Grobbelaar... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Grobbelaar
If you are using credit in any way as a form of funding gambling be it online or otherwise that is where the problems will start only spend your money, as I don't smoke or drive and I am not married and have no kids I have spare cash as such, that's what I use, as for the bookies regulating credit cards in a way they don't need to as it's practically impossible to get a credit card until 18 years old when of course you are legally considered an adult, there's no way any bank will issue one without the proper ID(Passport). However with payment methods such as paypal, u-Kash and pre-paid debit cards under 18's who know the system well enough will be able to set up an online account but at least it will be a debit account and not a credit account. With skyBET being out league sponsor I don't actually think most people pay attention to any form of advertising, without surfing the internet could you name the last 5 companies that were the league sponsors I couldn't. As for the premier league , not a huge fan bur I do have family ties to north London so I keep a eye on the Spurs result, but the premier league is harming the game especially at grass roots level they are too power hungry , money matters too much and too may foreign players that's why home grown English players are not getting the right amount of first team action in the higher leagues maybe that's why we are struggling a bit at the moment the English players that are not getting premier league experience have to drop down the leagues. On a personal note I am sitting on top of the league 1 betting table with our fellow not606's on the Bristol City forum Just patting myself on the back All the best Up The Gills James
