Very non committal, looks like we could be seeing Coates as a regular starter next year! http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11669/7913573/Skrtel-reveals-approaches
Surely it shows he is committed. He announces that he still has a valid contract with Liverpool so he is still a Liverpool player. Yes, he has been approached with offers, but were these approaches made with the club's knowledge, or is this a case of another team tapping up players?
I find it exactly the opposite, saying that you will fulfil your contract sounds like a chore and an obligation, I suppose it is a commitment by the very definition of the word, but there is no heart in it - unlike Suarez's commitment that he has shown this summer and in general
A lot of people thought there was heart in Torres' commitment to the club and look what happened there. These days there are very few players who will remain loyal to any club an I am just happy that he is willing to finish the contract he agreed with our club. Hopefully this season we will finish high enough to manage to secure a few more years on some of our better players contracts, but until we start consistently finish in top 4 again, I expect very little.
That's because he wasn't very good whenever he played. You never know though I suppose. Coates and Kelly would be the obvious choice but with Agger being a little injury prone we could end up with both of them starting, that would be a worry. If Skrtel goes we need to buy a center back imo. I haven't forgotten about Carra but surley he could not start on a regular basis this season.
I agree, I forgot about Wilson myself until I saw him in a photo the other day. Id like Skrtel to stay and show some loyalty but I wont be surprised or devastated if he leaves because for me Coates and Kelly will both become better than Skrtel in time.
Don't think Wilson will cut it for Liverpool. I remember watching him vs Czech Republic I think it was in a Euro qualifier. He had a great game.
Agree on that, but if he goes sorry 15 mil minimum or else piss off. Same with Agger but 25 mil. If these teams want our best players they have to cough it up so we can get adequate or potentially better replacements. Glad we are standing firm on if Carroll goes we (alledged) want at least 20 mil back. Skrtel needs an Agger type next to him to shine, he is the enforcer and Agger is the thinker, organizer, distributer.
Yes we need to start being ruthless in the transfer market. If Lescott can go for £20mil or so then Skrtel and Agger should be the same or more and especially if its City or Real Madrid doing the buying.
1. i'd be suprised if the big CL teams actually want him. 2. he is not a good passer of the ball. 3. he plays best in behind a guy who goes and wins it in the air. agger is therefore most vital 4. coates, kelly, etc are indeed there but he is one of the consistent performers.
As good as Skrtel has been, I wouldn't lose too much sleep if he left in comparison to if Agger left.
1. Why? He's been one of the best centre backs over the last two seasons in Europe. 2. He is very good at bringing the ball out of the back, very good infact, just because he isn't as good as Agger doesn't mean he isn't. 3. I would disagree with that, I think he's at his best when he's the one doing the attacking every ball and he has confidence in the guy next to him that he'll sweep up anything behind him.
Not the best response I have seen from a player if I'm honest. He says he has a contract and it is up to Liverpool but he doesn't exactly say he doesn't want to move either. Regulars on here will know I am mixed when it comes to Skrtel, last season he was good but that is one season in four...
the only reason i would be sad to see skrtel go is if Cara gets more game time next season as we don't find adequate replacement or cover, we lose Agger and i would be gutted, but not so much with Skrtel. Cara is a legend but i hope he doesn't get much if any game time next season, want to see him do his coaching badges (if he hasn't finished them already) Skrtel is a good player, but i think that's more down to partnering Agger than his own talent, and as said 1 good season in 4 not sure why he isn't committed , he still has more to prove to me, if he can emulate what he did last season for a start and not just a one season wonder, think unless progress is made on last season league finish, clubs might be sniffing around then and more interested, but for now just sounds like its a better contract he wants. what's the feeling like of Spearing on here? i use another forum as well and its 50/50 on him on there. i am of the opinion he is and will never be good enough for a Liverpool team that has ambitions of being where we should be at the top, but is he good enough for now? i think not, and hope we get better or at least looking to replace him. we have too many passengers in our team for me and years gone by we wouldn't even entertain half the players we have, that saddens me where we are at, but hope that is changing now, esp with Brendan giving youth a chance and cant wait to see Suso and Sterling in the first team.
