Skrtel on football focus

Skrtel on football focus. Good interview. A lot of praise for Agger and Dalglish.

But one thing I noticed was he was talking about our league form in past tense a bit, as if the league season has been and gone. I also got the impression he did not want to talk about it. Maybe due to shame.

This pretty much confirmed my thoughts that our players have pretty much given up on the league now and are playing for the FA Cup final. Against West Brom they seemed to give up as soon as the goal went in.


I am not criticizing Skrtel, as he is a great player and great professional.


But has any one else thought this?


We have a very busy summer ahead.

Tbh, it's difficult to express yourself properly in a foreign language, there may have been things he wanted to say but wasn't able to.
I imagine the team have written off the league as a competition for this season, but they should still play each game as though it were important imo.

I liked the bit earlier where Lineker asked Fat Ronaldo if Messi was the best player ever.
The interpreter said " Yes, I think so" whereas I bet Ron said "apart from me".

 

Lets be fair to Skrtel, the league is almost gone for us. There is very little to play for this year in the league, the sooner we get to 38 games the better and start looking to work on next season.

And Skrtel has been just about our best player this season, a very good candidate for Player of the season.

I think the league, for the last few weeks, has simply been the place to prove you deserve to be in the squad for the FA cup final and possibly even in the squad for the next season. Whilst we could write it off completely, doing so could just ruin confidence before the final, so it's important to approach each game with the intent to win it.

I hope the team isn't embarrased about the season. It's not ideal by any means, but lots of positives imo, and hopefully over summer we can build on it. Top 4 next season should be a deffinite aim, or at least significantly closer than we are this year depending on how the summer goes.

Keeping Agger fit is so important. We're ****e without him.

 

Yeah the season was over a few games ago, but there are players that should be playing for their career who are not.
