http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/skrtel-on-agger-partnership Martin Skrtel has spoken about his blossoming partnership at centre back with Daniel Agger and explained why he believes they can get even better in 2012 as the Reds look to bring success back to Anfield. The pair have started the last six Barclays Premier League games alongside each other but the Slovakian is well aware of the quality ready to step in from the sidelines. "Daniel is a top quality player and is easy to play alongside," Skrtel told Liverpoolfc.tv. "We have a very good understanding on the pitch which is important and we are working hard and enjoying our job. I think we are doing well together. "Our squad is now very strong. That is very important for the team because we have a lot of games in front of us, especially January when we have cup matches as well, so we need everybody fresh." Skrtel and Agger were both at their imperious best as the Reds returned to winning ways on home turf against Queens Park Rangers last weekend. Luis Suarez netted the only goal of the game against Neil Warnock's outfit and Skrtel insists he is more than grateful to have the Uruguayan star on his side. "It was important for us to keep a clean sheet against QPR and we have been working hard on defending as a team," he added. "A clean sheet always gives the defence and Pepe a lot of confidence. "It was very important to get back to winning ways at home against QPR. We created a lot of chances again and Luis got the important goal to get us three points. "Luis is just a great player and it is very difficult playing against him on the training ground so I know what it's like for the opposition to face him. "He is so competitive in training, every single session. I try not to let him score but that is not easy I can tell you as he is very difficult to mark!"
good for suarez... helping skertl become a decent player.... lets all just assume suarez is the guy who makes everything work...
You may actually have a point, if you have to mark Suarez in training you will have to be on your toes.
pity carragher didn't learn yet about not clawing at players til lthey flop then eh? can't teach an old dog and all that. FOr the first time in.... 5 years? we've a back line. finnan carragher hyppia risse johnson skertl agger enrique. i think with having coates and kelly in reserve on top of carragher we're fairly well sorted. Aurelio is fairly poor cover seeing he's never fit but with some yuong lads on their way up and robinson (also injured) we're good. The thought just one more is dangerous to me here. If skertl can prove himself against the best in the next 6 months with agger then i think we move kelly to CB when carragher retires and go with that. Flanagan for rb reserve.... Hopefully carroll is throwing himself about in training to toughen our lads up too..
I'm so glad KK has had the balls to leave Carra out of the side, Carra is still a very good defender but its come apparent that he can 't play every game anymore. Skrtel/Agger are forming a lovely partnership
Skrtel's form has made a massive difference to the feel of the squad for me; at the start of the season with Carra making mistakes and the thought of Skrtel waiting in the wings was a thing of nightmares! Now with him and Agger forming a great partnership and knowing we still have the experience of Carra, the youth and promise of Coates and Kelly things really do look great for the defence right now!
Sktrel is a different player when he's on the right - much more assured on the ball and when facing oncoming play.
I have to admit Skertle is proving me wrong atm! The stats don't lie, our defence have done very well. Just the other end!
I have to hold my hands up at the moment, I've given him some stick. I still feel it is a position we need to strengthen though.
I am not so sure, I thought the same earlier in the season for the reasons I mentioned i.e Carra's form, Skrtel's inconsistency and Agger's brittleness. If quality becomes available for a bargain price I would say go for it but if not I think we really need to start slowly integrating Coates and Kelly for that position rather than waste him at right back.
agger is a calming influence at the back as he is very composed on the ball - i think this takes pressure off skrtel as the ball is not coming straight back at the defence after a hoofed clearance
