As X says, Southampton away was probably it, but i thought i remembered seeing him with his green shirt on but can't have if it was Southampton. Maybe he had his pic in the Daily Fail that i remember. Either that or it was someone totally different, which is a very big possibility
Might be wrong but I recall it being Pompey mid 80s. Apparently, Norman went to stand up on the bus, bus did a sharp turn and he did his back in. At the time no one had goalkeeper subs as you could only use one sub, hence Skipper in goal.
You're correct. 2nd round of the full members cup and a Tuesday night game, 25th November to be precise. So kudos for those of you who made that journey. An early sub appearance for a shuffling 17-year-old! Don't think he made his proper debut until 1987.
Skipper in goal rings a bell, did he go in another time as well? Went to the Dell a couple of years before in 84, Milk Cup, Steve Moran scored in both legs, good striker in his day, is he still living in East Yorks?
I loved that little trick he had, used to copy his little drag shuffle and Paytons move round the goalies. I owe a lot of my football skills from watching those two inspirations!
That team rolls off the tongue like, umm, a malteaser (not Skipper in goal obviously). All except CorkainS, whom I've just had to Google. Steve apparently. Six appearances, one goal. Anybody recollect anything about him?
Will try and find a video of it somewhere but he was a very clever player Jenks, a shame he didn't get more success in his career even if he did make the top flight for a bit
I think I was at this game at Boothferry, Jenks runs riot but you don't see his shuffle-feint though. Peter Swan playing at the back, Payton up front
Payton had been a Boro player for 5 months by then. And Swan was at Port Vale. This is the post-relegation team.
With Pete Skipper I remember a game when he came back and played against us at home and we lost something like 6-1 to Darlington. I was in the East stand for that game, the South Stand must have been closed for some reason as I always stood there and nowhere else.
