Please bare with me because this not a troll or attempt at winding up the blue side of Hampshire...But....I really don't understand them, just brousing through various forums checking out reaction to the weekends events and they still believe they're the best team in Hampshire, and we live in their shadows. So, to deal with this scientifically i am going to compose a list of "How the **** can you think that".

Fan Base - Best fan's in the world? **** no. In dire straights with multiple plea's for sell-outs such as "pack the park" and various others. The result of these - empty seats. I do feel for the genuine die hard fans but in general there is no way they can justify the best fan's in the world opinion. I remember a couple of years back them introducing plans for a new stadium seating around 30k...Earlier this season in mid table they were getting gates of 14k...

Club Direction - Pretty black and white really this one, just look at this seasons table. Also the structure and plans for future of each club.

Pompey - "Fire sale" during summer where 17-18 of the best players are going to leave just in an attempt to save the club (which yes it is sad they are in that position in first place and i do hope them to get through it with survival)

Saints - 5 year plan - Detailed plans for the future, how they are going to be achieved etc. Solid funding without the need to mass spend *cough FA cup cough*.

So, in conclusion i would love to know why we're "still" in their shadows? And the other thing i have come to realise is it just me or are most of their fans more concerned with our results then their own? I remember after a game when we lost and they didn't various texts into Solent with the general feeling our promotion is worse to them than their financial problems and relegation beckoning.

Why are you worried about them?

They're history now gone and long forgotten.

Don't be daft Godders. We will always care, even if they are in the Isthmian League.

I dont quite see the need to post that on this forum. I haven't seen many post from Pompey fans here claiming that Southampton are "in Pompey's shadow". The Pompey fans still on here at this time seem mostly the kind who go into the light-hearted banter stuff - no me though.

Edit: and I hate that "best fans in the world" bull****. I've lost track of how many times I've had to say; its a myth! Only morons and people wanting to take shots at Pompey fans sat that kind of crap now.

There are a small band of the Blue Phew who I absolutely despise, I seldom look at the News site these days, but popped over for quick scan and what do I see? An article saying that the West Brom job could be Appletons if he wanted it, the response is, "Why would WBA want him, all he has done is get us relegated"!!!!! Undying gratitude for the one man that's tried to keep them going under the toughest circumstances possible. Unbelieveable but I hasten to add it is a minority view.

    Just laugh at them
    1) We are promoted to the Premier League .
    2) They are releagted to League 1 .
    3) We have 90 Million coming our way that we will not spend but rather save and spend the money we all ready have .
    4) For £90 they would sell one of the first XI .
    5) Us progression .
    6) Them regression .
    7) £15 Million state of the art academy .
    8) Ummmmmmmmm .
    9) 32,000 sellouts every game next season .
    10) In all probabilty even if they survive they shall average arounf 11,000 -12,000 ?
    11) We averaged 21,000 and 22,000 .

In short if they average more than we did where we were and the situation then we can sit round the table and talk about it , we have walked the walk , they have talked it , I look forward to them surviving and proving they are a so good , a bell end ringing a bell does not constitute good support , they have always been in the modern era poorly supported .

It is laughable but it's time to forget about them. We won't play them for probably another generation if this last season is anything to go by. I'd be surprised if they stayed up next season, let alone be in existence. Let's focus on ourselves and being with big boys again. We can watch the Premier league now until mid-May knowing we will be playing against these players, in these stadium and knowing we are equal. Beautiful.

Would not spend too much time worrying about what people on the Snooze/other sites have to say. The old "we're better than you" argument will go on forever and is incredibly boring, as people trot out arcane stats about who beat who 100 years ago (who cares). We get a few thousand more supporters, great. Still doesn't make us better. As for the best supporters bit, well I've never heard anyone claim that kind of nonsense and have no idea where it comes from. There are a few neg-heads on all sides but as you say Barny Army most Saints hope Pompey pull through.

I suppose the moral of the story is don't pay any attention to what people write on internet forums...oh wait <yikes>.

I'm sorry MAJR but there is a number of Pompey fans that do hype themselves up, how else would you explain this banner?...

Oh come on, the fans of any club think they're great fans in some way. No fan is going to say their own support is ****e, I don't know why you take a bit of self-promotion so personally.

No need for this thread in my opinion. It seems churlish to compare the two clubs at this point. And that banner is clearly a joke.

I don't even see them as rivals anymore.

Their club is all but gone and it seems there are now even fewer of the blue few... <whistle>

Thats an interesting comment. I noticed Sir Alex saying that Man U's biggest rivals will always be Liverpool and not Man City. No doubt because City were not competitive for so many years. That might change. I don't think our relationship with Pompey will change whatever division we are in. As for Premier League rivals, Reading seem too nice so it will probably be Spurs for me. Looking forward to welcoming Harry back to Saint Mary's:emoticon-0172-mooni

We will always regard Pompey as our rivals, even when they are 2 leagues below us. It would be rude not to. As for the PL, every team is our rival and each match should be treated as must win.

Fortunately we seem to have a "better class" of poster here on not606, which is one of the reasons I enjoy it on here. With a very few exceptions (nowhere's perfect) we Pompey and Saints fans are able to visit each others' boards for some decent banter, without having to contest with some of the downright hateful bile that we might encounter elsewhere.

As far as being "great" or "the greatest" supporters; no set of fans (as mentioned above) will ever NOT claim to be "great fans".
As far as living in shadows is concerned; we've both had our times in the Sun and in the Shadows, so to speak over the courses of our history. Now it's your turn in the sun and our turn in the shadow.

That said, you cannot expect any team's fans to belittle their side's plight in public. Take any side from any division and the words to the song are the same. We all know it isn't true, but we've all sung it at some time.

    ...and it's [insert team name]
    [insert team name] FC
We're by far the greatest team
    The world has ever seen

Enjoy the roller coaster ride in the Prem <ok>
