NAh not about that subject ! But related, I was wondering why we have a stand called the Sir John Hall Stand, what did he ever do for us to deserve such an honour except make money from the club. Surely there are many better people associated with the club who should be honoured - not least Sir Bobby who should be top of the list.

With people mentioning that we can change the name once Ashley has gone (please soon) wondered why this one has'nt been changed ?

It's a strange one but he helped a lot when it came to building the Leazes and Milburn extensions. I only know people who call it Leazes though.

Yeah it is a bit strange when you think about it. It will always be the Leazes end for me, many happy times spent there in the 70's !

He was behind the redevelopment of the team and SJP and the club wouldn't be anything like it is now without him. Will always be the Leazes though, just as SJP will always be SJP as I've now pointed out in three separate threads...

he saved this club we were being run by worse owners than ashley (mckeag and the like) and were on a one way ticket to the old third division, with him he turned the club around made it a world wide name and gave us European football and with his appointment of Keegan turned us into the entertainers. In short he saved this club from oblivion i hope you said this tongue in cheek as a lot of young uns don't seem to realise how bad this club was run for years before he came along far worse than ashley IMO just ask your dads/grandads how bad the regime was before hall came along

    I completely agree with this.

McKeag, Westwood and cronies bled the club dry over many years, so let's not forget what John Hall did for the club.

Plus the fact he gave me a round of applause in La Cala Golf Club after I'd stood up pissed and treated everyone to a rendition of " The Lambton Worm "

SJH bought a round of drinks for me and my family at Malaga Airport a few years back. While we waited for our flight to Teesside Airport to be called, we had a good chat about footy in general and NUFC in particular. Also posed for photos with me and my sons.

thanks to the older ones amongst you for the information. I did'nt really have much of an interest in the club in the late seventies early eighties as I was living abroad back then so did'nt know how much he did for the club. When I hear the name Hall and Newcastle I think of Douglas Hall who seems to have been a different kettle of fish to his father. So maybe he does deserve a stand named after him. Still no excuse for building shopping malls, are we Americans ?

And his construction company did the work. The Halls and Shepherds didn't do badly out of their association with NUFC.
