Let's discuss some relevant football before the thread gets derailed. If RVP does leave in the summer (or is not a first choice player next season due to injuries or poor form), what do you think the ideal replacement scenario would be? Do you think Rooney should be the advanced striker and Mata can play the no.10 role, or do you think we should splash out on a big name striker and keep Rooney and Mata competing for the no.10 role with the other player having to play out wide? Personally I'd rather keep our cash for the areas that really need it (central midfield, fullbacks, and perhaps central defence or wingers if a decent player was available). I would rather give a young striker the chance to be a squad player... Will Keane perhaps?
I'm not sure if Chicharito is going to leave, but if RVP does leave I'm hoping he'll stay. He's not great as a lone striker but I think with Mata or Rooney as the no. 10 he'd get enough support from them to cope decently on his own, on the occasions that either Rooney or Mata are injured/rested. And Welbeck would be a more physical option as well... We don't play a lone striker as Chelsea and Arsenal do where the midfield are miles behind the striker and he needs to be more physical to cope.
I'm already starting to get to the point where I'd like to see RVP leave in the summer. He's a team player when we're winning but sulks when things are hard. **** him. Bring in one main striker like Falcao or someone like that and play both Mata and Rooney behind him. I'd love to see Kroos come in but I just can't see it happening. If we don't get him then I think we certainly still need another top quality CM but I think Moyes is well aware of this so I expect some big movement in this position in the summer. 1 new stiker, 1 central midfielder as I still think Fellaini will come good, a new centre back and a new left back. Cheers dave
Harsh tbh. Hes a striker who is arguably the best in the world but he gets no service at all and is expected to win games single handedly.
I agree with most of this. RVP's attitude would determine whether he stays or goes in my mind though. What are your thoughts on right back? Rafael needs to get back to his old form but in my mind he's still our clear no 1. I'm hoping the young right back out on loan (Varela) will at least prove a promising backup next season. Does anyone know how raw he is? I'm guessing he'll be an enthusiastic attacking fullback that needs to still work on the defensive side of his game. At least we'll have more defensive options for the big games (no jokes about the Europa League pls) in Smalling and Jones if Rafael is injured.
In terms of the RB position I think we should continue with Rafael next season as other areas need addressing before this. Long term though, Rafael needs to improve if he wants to the position is own over the long term (like Neville did). I personally think that's part of the problem with United currently. How many positions can you list where you think X player has made that position their own for the foreseeable future ? 1 - De Gea 2 - ????? 3 - ????? 4- ?????? 5 - ?????? 6 - Carrick 7 - ?????? 8 - ?????? 9 - RVP (although forseeable future is questionable ) 10 - Rooney 11 - ??????? We have alot of good players but none that have really put their maker down on a specific position and said to the rest of the squad 'this is my position to lose''. Too many good squad players in my opinion and not enough star quality.
Off topic I know, but I saw it in the paper and had to laugh - "Moyes has assured Man U fans that they will be competing in a major European competition next year. Even if he has to write the song himself!"
I don't expect him to win games single handly but I'd like to see some heart from him when things aren't going his way. His body language hasn't been great recently.
