Pilgrims, this isnât a thread about the heating at Sir Michaelâs dwelling but namely one about the unraced 2YO he trains that rejoices under that moniker. Bred in the absolute purple she is by Dubawi and out of Heat Haze. The latter was a dual Grade 1 winner in the US and is from one of Khalid Abdullahâs best families in that Heat Haze is a half-sister to the likes of Dansili, Intercontinental, Cacique and Banks Hill. Outstanding pedigree wise though I do wonder if the name, Radiator, is a lovely one for a filly. Although thatâs a debate for another day, methinks. However, the reason that Radiator has caught my eye is because of the Eyecatching, with a capital âEâ, entry that Sir Michael has given her later in the week. This is in Thursdayâs Listed âStar Stakesâ at Sandown Park (3.05). Never one to tilt at the old windmills and set his charges unrealistic targets the fact that he thinks Radiator is up to Listed level on debut speaks volumes to this correspondent. The Sanders Park heat though looks ultra competitive in that the likes of old boy Charlton, Godolphin, the Hannonâs and Barringtonâs boy all have winning fillies entered up. However, itâs going to be fascinating to see (a) if Sir Michael lets her take her chance, and (b) if she runs, how Radiator gets on. Iâve no idea how hot she is or if Radiator is burning up the gallops but I await her debut, at Sandown or elsewhere, with keen interest given her outstanding pedigree and how high the bar looks to have been set, from this entry at any rate. So then, troops, do we think she could be the âreincarnation of Pegasusâ or alternatively is, for once, Sir Michael incorrectly calling one of his geese a swan?!?
Well spotted Sir Barney. Throwing them in at the deep end used to happen a lot more than it does now. Chief Singer won the Coventry first time out, Smuggler won the Chesham first time out....if they're ready they can go in. Stoute rarely has them at peak condiition for their 2yo debuts as I've been reminded to my cost over the last couple of days. Haven't seen her mentioned on the gallops reports, worth looking on the sporting life tips centre gallops column over the last week or so.
Bustino, the one that instantly springs to my mind is Lammtarra. The unbeaten Derby winner made his bow in a Listed race at Newbury. Can’t recall too many more from top yards doing the same. This entry doesn’t mean she’s going to be top drawer, of course, but I would certainly say it’s very striking.
Yes that's a better one than mine. Sea the Stars brother (whose name eludes me at the moment) started off winning a Listed race.
BORN TO SEA, you mean Bustino? I spotted this filly this morning. The fact she already has Ryan Moore jocked up is a strong indicator that they intend to run her. Sometimes yards have no choice but to enter two year olds in better races first time out due to issues such as not being EBF registered (most 2 year old maiden races are closed to EBF registered horses only), but that is certainly not the case with this filly so it is intriguing indeed.
Yep, Radiator removed from the Sandown Park heat, at the declaration stage, and she now has no current entries. Maybe, Sir Michael will put her in a ‘Glorious’ Goodwood maiden next week??? In the ‘Weekender’ today another Stoute unraced 2YO filly gets a very positive write-up, namely PSYCHOMETRY. She’s entered at Ascot on Friday (2.00) and in the words of the Newmarket correspondent of the paper ‘is expected to make a top class prospect over a mile by the end of the season’. Interesting to note though, from the same publication, that last Saturday Psychometry and Radiator galloped together. The latter under Ryan Moore emerged ‘best’. Although I’m loath to read too much into such situations as (i) you don’t know the weights carried, or (ii) exactly how much was asked of each animal.
I read those gallop reports and all I think they tell you is that horses are galloping. Don't get me wrong that's good... but it doesn't mean they are any good unfortunately.
gallop reports-- prove that the animal has four legs.... and they work in a motion.... now a spy app on a trainers phone........
Radiator now has a couple of entries namely the Group 1 Fillies Miles, on 27 Sept, and much more imminently a 7 furlong maiden at ‘Glorious’ Goodwood on Thursday. The hugely, hugely promising debut of Psychometry on Friday at Ascot can only be viewed in a positive light re Radiator and I’m greatly looking forward to her racecourse bow. In fact I can’t remember looking forward to one, making its debut, as much since my old fave, Zaynar, made his NH bow for Mr Henderson back in the closing days of ’08.
The pontificating and the theorising is over, people. Radiator will debut at Goodwood on Thursday - http://www.sportinglife.com/racing/...-stallion-studs-new-ham-maiden-fillies-stakes At the moment Sporting Life are forecasting 6/1.
Let’s hope she does indeed come on for the run. I see someone, on course, had £1,300 on the old girl so they, at any rate, must have been Disappointed with a capital ‘D’. Some way to go though for Radiator to justify a Listed or indeed ‘Fillies Mile’ entry but hopeful the experience will have done her the world of good and we get to see a different, and much better, horse next time out. Still one to keep in the notebook, methinks.
Going back to the value of gallops reports a recent one had a 2yo colt of Stoute's, Festival Theatre, going better in a gallop with Juvenile Lead. One would hope so as Juvenile Lead has been dead for about 6 weeks.
