Sir Chris Powell- sounded out for the job at League Two Oxford United, but passed over in favour of Michael Appleton. That's a bit like being told that your bird has lost out in a beauty contest...to Vanessa Feltz. Was it really only six months ago that certain people on here were telling us that Sir Chris would be snapped up by a Premier League club faster than a tin of beans flys off the shelves in an Ethiopian supermarket ? I would like to apologise for insinuating that Powell's next job after Charlton would be more Southend than Southampton. I was wrong. It won't be. It will be Southport
Nick Gray drops down a further few notches in my estimation (not that he's bothered). FFS give it a rest Nick, we're on our second manager since Chris Powell. I don't care where he ends up but good luck to him, whereever it is.
Don't laugh too soon. We could be playing them in two seasons if our owner keeps on letting go our best players and signing rubbish..
@ TED & West Stand Willy (or whatever he is calling himself this week) Definition of Forum (noun) A meeting or medium where ideas and views can be exchanged.
Are we using real names now. If so, lets all put our cards on the table shall we, or else stick to the rules of the game (Yes - I mean you, HRH)
Got ya. No idea if this is true - but CP hasn't been without offers since he left. In fact another former managers side - blackpool, came in for him, but CP wanted to spend the first part of the summer on doing further training. I don't think you have to worry about him yet, Nick.
I do actually wonder why Chris Powell has not got a job, Curbs was clear when he left CAFC, that he was visiting his sister on New Zealand (or otherwise known waiting for WHU to get rid of their old manager) If you are any good in this business, you get picked up see Riga. I read somewhere that every managers jobs become vacant at least 40 applicants apply. Managers like players have agents too and I imagine that the agent would as a matter of practice fire of a CV on every position vacant to remind other clubs that they have a worthy applicant, regurgitating an active CV is common practice in all areas of employment. It also constitutes an 'consideration' if Oxford approached CP for the job as they have to adhere to certain employment laws and advertise the position to all, so frankly I read nothing into this application. I also think attending courses is another way of saying 'not good enough'.
Yes, I do own a dictionary, let me show you an example Definition of Boring (adjective) not interesting; tedious. and a bonus one Definition of repetitive (adjective) containing or characterised by repetition, especially when unnecessary or tiresome.
To answer your question, maybe because Powell was only really rated in "Wally-ville", the spiritual home many a Charlton fan?
You always start the anti powell thing so you'll always get the same answer from me. Something non Powell related or non abuse and I might give you a different answer, I've agreed with you on most the world cup stuff anyway.
Can we agree that if VaV starts another repetitive boring anti powell rant he should be considered to be suffering from a personality disorder akin to stalking or similar obsessive behaviour and until treatment is sought by him for this psychotic condition we use the ignore button. Whilst I respect that there are one or two on here that agree with him it is exceedingly boring for the rest of us. The views of all parties are relatively well know and unlikely to be changed by another post which is biased one way or another. Unless of course Vol, you can come up with concrete proof that not only was Powell an aid to both Bin Laden and Rolf Harris whilst being responsible for creating the financial crisis of 2008 by giving guidance to Gordon Brown and advising Gadaffi and the Syrian regime - give it a break, he was a Charlton Athletic football manager that you did not like for whatever reason. The rest of us are worrying about whether Peeters has a clue about putting a team together and whether we have sufficient players to form a team in this division.
.I don't mind his anti-Powell rants. He reminds me of Houndal who was a favourite poster of mine. He had a similar attitude towards Parky, and even after Parky got sacked, and got a job at Bradford he was not put off. In fact he went to one or two of Bradford's games to shout bile n vitriol at Parky. Unfortunately for Houndal, Parky got Bradford promoted, and also got them to the League Cup final, at which point Houndal stopped posting, believed by some to have imploded.
Guys - we do have an ignore feature on the site, so if you don't want to see any individuals post you don't have to do so. What we can't have is another post going way off topic and involve slanging matches between posters. Should anyone like to know how to ignore posts then please don't hesitate to drop me and PM and I will inform you of how to do so. Thanks Super
