Apparently, according to people who I know who've met him, he's a right miserable ****. I've met his brother and he pretty much said the same thing.
Maybe an airplane crash, losing most of your team mates and friends, not to mention only just surviving yourself does that to you.
Sir Bobby, Waggy and Boycott my childhood heroes. At least Sir Bobby was just a miserable **** unlike the other ****s
I met Jack briefly once, I was behind him in Riga boarding a plane for Manchester, after Ireland had just played Lativa. I said to him, " I wouldn't have expected to see you in front of me of all place like Lativa Jack" He turned round, and said "why not they play football here as well you know. The conversation ended there.
He's not universally popular at OT, quite the opposite in fact - I used to work with some old-school types who never forgave him for touting FA cup final tickets when thousands of ManU fans couldn't get them.
I have read on more than one occasion that this was the case. Once by Jack Charlton. Bobby Charlton comes over as a decent bloke with a lot of respect. Probably why some people want to slag him off.
Charlton didnt tout the tickets. The guy he gave them to did. He apologised and accepted that he would be taken off the list of those who received them and said it was the right decision.
Charlo must be gutted at what Man Utd have become. A **** magnet and a tawdry club fill of divers, narcissists, chancers and owned by devious Septics. It long since stopped being the club that Sir Matt Busby managed.
That's the story that came from the club - the supporters I worked with were adamant it was a fudge of a story to stop the scandal, I don't know the truth and tbh, I'm not particularly bothered either way. I do know for a fact though, whatever the truth of the matter is, he's not popular among those who were fans at the time.
An ex workmate of mine was sat next to him on a flight back from Munich. This was 12+ years ago. The workmate said " he was the charming man you could ever meet". He signed autographs for everyone. Never booked or sent off either. Enjoy your birthday Bobby
Hence why a lot left and form FC United Manchester FC, who, as a matter of interest had a 3-3 draw with Nth Ferriby at the weekend.
Just on a side note, I wonder whether he now feels that staying, playing regular 90 minutes of football week in and week out, has helped him perform better for his country. Rather sitting on the bench as a EPL and getting 20 minutes of football towards the end of a game.
