What's your thoughts on the bloke who ran the club for so many years? Weirdly I was thinking about his reign (the latter part due to my age) the other day before seeing this article http://rokerreport.sbnation.com/201...rray-and-the-failed-dueteronomy-of-north-east Is he thought of 10 years on as someone who laid the foundations for so many years in the Premier League or was he the cause of the mess that left us with 2 unwanted Premier League records? Without knowing too much around the early days, for me, he was unfortunate not to have the resources to kick on under Reid before leaving it too late to cut his loyalty to the manager that had initially turned it around for him.
I have a lot of time for him, because he always had the club's interests at heart. Bit hard to compare him with the current set-up, because the TV money's gone through the roof, but I suspect he might have handled it better with the people he had around him than Ellis Short has.
Murray got a lot of stick but the facts are he simply didn't have the funds to do what we wanted him to, he did what he could. He vowed to put us in a stadium and step aside and he did, I've nothing but praise and fondness for him. If we hadn't moved stadium when we did, where we may be now doesn't bear thinking about.
Did not sign Cloughy in 1985, 15 and 19 points and 7th and 7th but fell away both seasons about 2 world class signings and that is that. The stadium of light was funded by about 96% of other peoples money, but good job we moved but it is far too big for the owners ambitions.
Big fan of Bob, felt the brunt of fan frustration simply because he wasn't rich enough. unlike the tight **** who owns us now who happens to be ****ing loaded.
Bob was a true fan, he lead us to our lowest point and some of our finest seasons that I can remember. He did a lot more than moving us all from this please log in to view this image to this please log in to view this image
History has judged Bob favourably, and rightly so, a real fan of the club, not often you get that these days. But it took SNQ to raise our profile, and too many forget that imo.
