Gigi Salmon on CTV was going on the other night about how we seem to have stopped singing at SB these days! We can still make a bit of a noise but meaningful singing and chanting seem to have gone! As someone who joined in all the prompting of Mick Greenaway through the 60's ,70's and 80's in the Shed I am saddened by this! "All the lads", "Blue is the colour","We love you Chelsea"," Osgood, born is the king" to name but a few! Apart from a nice start with The Liquidator, we've become tone deaf! If I was a bit younger I think I might have tried to take over from Mick Greenaway! Instead, is there anyone out there who fancies the job?
what the **** are you on about? It wasn't supposed to, it was an equally childish retort to your utter bullshit post.
My son has a theory on this as we were discussing it only a couple of weeks ago (and I think I mentioned it on Bucks thread after a game) Last week he went to his first game in many years, (a birthday treat from his dad) so has no idea on ticket price etc. But he said it was very strange as he was completely surrounded by non speaking Chelsea supporters and the atmosphere was very flat in that area, he said he could only hear the chants, singing etc from the shed end, but didn't feel he would have been able to contribute at all. Is this the norm. Or was he just unlucky. I'm currently trying to work on him joining us here as he's a lurker atm
Angel --all seating doesn't help, but after we became all seater we still managed to keep some of the songs going, and after Mick Greenaway passed on! Mick was unique, so we wont have him, but perhaps we could get Neil Barnett to get something going!
I have just been having a look around the site this morning and came across this, it seems we are not the only ones. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/213692-Why-were-Watford-Supporters-so-quiet
It's got nothing to do with seating but all to do with increasing prices that outstrip both general inflation and wages - as talked about on another thread. We sing less, and ours songs are less inventive, because increasing prices and marketing have shifted the attendance demographic. We have more tourists, prawn sandwich munchers, and generally those that would be too embarrassed or restrained to indulge some of the humorous but often quite-base chants that often got bellowed out in the past.
Beluga--there's more than a grain of truth in in your view! Looking around at the gathered audience today and they look a "different sort" to the one's of yesteryear! It would be great if the PL would allow a section of terracing to be used for standing fans, but with strict ticketing arrangements to avoid another Hillsborough! I'm sure that would bring back some atmosphere!
